Amniotic cyst

Hello, today I went in for my second trimester ultrasound and came home a bit worried. I am 19 weeks 4 days along. When the tech finished the ultrasound she told me she seen somethings on my placenta and wanted to see me again in 9 weeks to make sure the baby is growing. During the ultrasound I noticed she measured a small sac and then typed amniotic cyst. That left me concern. Is there anything to worry about if I have an amniotic cyst? Isn't 9 weeks too long to wait if there is something wrong?

Hi!
Naturally, it is difficult for me to comment having not seen the ultrasound images, and I would very strongly encourage you to ask your own OB doctor the very same excellent questions!  I found a recent study from Harvard that reported on placental cysts of various types.  In that study, most cysts were associated with normal pregnancy outcomes.  Sometimes in the case of very large, or numerous cysts, the babies were small.

If you were my patient, I would definitely want to repeat the ultrasound to follow the progression of the cyst.  If it is just sitting there quietly, I would  simply watch the baby's growth closely, and send the placenta to pathology after the birth.

I hope this helps!

yes it seems 9 weeks is too long just to wait and see...

whats ur OB thing about it.When I had my amnio,I had also proceed with the second level US which is different than regular first level US....

The second level US showed all the problems that my baby was having, but amnio couldn't catch any of them....so I was glad that I did another test,,,I had to have D&C afterwards

good luck
