Are light ab workouts safe!?

am 5 weeks 5 days and I was wanting to know if it is safe to continue light ab workouts 5 to 7.5 minutes a day. Things like crunches and sit ups.

I'm a third time mother and was just going off what had been asked and explaining why it wouldn't be a good idea or counter productive to do the activity you stated in general.
Excersise is completely healthy and alright during pregnancy. If you would have asked what workouts should I do I would have responded with yoga walking or pretty much anything that's off your back or is not a strenuous direct core workout. Its not about being uneducated on the topic. Just trying to answer with what was provided. Before doing any exercise that you may question consult your doctor every pregnancy is different as well as our bodies.  Sorry for the confusion.

Specifically crunches and sit ups. If you do not know why comment or respond? No hard feelings, maybe don't chime in if you don't actually have helpful information. Might help steer clear from confusion.

Thank you Beckyboo6023! Very helpful and useful info.

I was wondering the same thing when I became ppregnant, what I found out is during the first trimester sit ups are ok, but after the first trimester no exercise that has you on ur back is safe. Keeping ur abs in shape in pregnancy is good cuz it helps get everything back to normal after birth. But like I said stay off ur back after first trimester

You specifically stated that you wanted to know about ab workouts in your post. You said nothing about walking or yoga. So o
our responses are based on the information you gave. If you would of stated walking I wouldn't have said "pointless."

that's okay. i know how you feel about wanting to be in shape. im the same way. im trying to get pregnant right now and currently working out like a crazy lady to stay in tip top shape when i finally get prego, because then the ab workouts will stop. ill still exercise though. no reason i can't have a tight butt :)
if you are worried about your body after baby, you can get an abdominal binder for the days following delivery. this is what i did, and my stomach looks exactly the same as before (skin, muscle, tightness, etc..) for proof you can see my pics at 3 weeks pp.
good luck on your pregnancy!

Thank you for useful info.
I honestly believe I was mutually responding to comments. Not being kind or rude.

no need to be angry. they are right. AB workouts are pointless if you are trying to tone your stomach, which by doing sit ups or crunches that's obviously what you're trying to do. there's no point in toning your stomach when pregnant. not only do you risk further separation of your abdominal muscles when further along, but your belly is going to grow and weaken your muscles regardless of what you do.this is why doctors recommending being in the best shape you can be before trying to get pregnant. because the healthier you are BEFORE pregnancy, the more likely you are to return to normal.
with that said, exercise is okay, but don't get your heart rate higher than 120 (per my OB when i was prego)
next time be nicer when posting. we're all trying to help each other!

Yoga has been great and relaxing!
I have been continuing leg and arm exercises but have been avoiding cardio and abs since I have found out I was pregnant. Also again ladies these are LIGHT 5 minute daily exercises. Not hardcore looking to get ripped workouts haha

How could you find any form of exercise pointless? That is kind of  an idiotic statement, so are you telling me that staying healthy and active while pregnant is pointless haha
Find the right balance of rest and activeness and a good diet. Nothing to do while appearance girls strictly health.

Firstly this wouldn't be to lose or keep off weight or look skinny but for only health reasons and staying active. You might have gotten confused over the usage of the word "ab".
You should exercise while you are pregnant regardless leg work outs and walks yoga ect. All of which work your abdominal muscles. My question was mainly about doing light crunches and or sit ups. Obviously none of you actually know.

Im not positive but I'm going to say no.
And as kensleysmom stated pointless.
Due to the fact everything will be expanding and stretching fighting it would be counter productive.
Their are plenty of exercises you are able to do tummy firming shouldn't be one.

I'm pretty sure you're not suppose to do any kind of ab workouts while pregnant
