Baby Bump

I know most of you fantastic ladies like to rock your baby bumps (show them off!), but I am on the other side of that fence. I am a little chubby anyway so I just look FAT.. I was wondering if there is anyone else out there that found clothing/undergarments that help hide it?

I don't want to offend anyone! PROMISE!! I am just not a fan of the bump and figured I would ask.. I can't be the ONLY one who is incredibly self conscience and feeling like a blimp..

the friend who is pregnant behind me, she's um, ALOT, bigger, ummmm...no offense, she's like 250 something? maybe more, cos i'm almost 200, and she's alot bigger, but rather than buy maternity clothes, she's bought maternity capri's and such, but she buys "babydoll" shirts, b/c that way, you can tell she's pregnant, and she can wear them forever, versus only while she's pregnant.....plus, according to her it helps hide her post-delivery "chunk" as she calls it!  but yeah the smock shirts are coming back in style, and i think she bought a few of those, and the way the ones she bought are made to fit, actually hide the weight in her sides, but still show some of her belly, so when you see her, it's an auto "ok she IS pregnant, even though she's a BBW".....also, she's bought some wrap shirts also, like the wrap dresses? cos then they are adjustable under her breasts to allow for comfort, but still hang well on the bodice...

oh and i watched "how to look good naked" last night lol, and the guy was saying if you buy something that brings more attn to the top, your breasts w/o being skanky(lol), then people focus more on your face and breasts(oh yippee!), then on the weight around your stomach.....i think most of the clothing he'd show was like dual material-something slinky on the belly and waist, but snug and sexy on the top...it worked well for the woman he was working with!

target has good clearances, and walmart sometimes(esp. on their bottoms), and you can just google "clearance maternity wear", or "hip plus size clothing", that's how my friend finds all her stuff...i think she paid like $75 for 2 bottoms and 5 shirts?

No.. No Target here.. WE have NOTHING commercial.. No chains.. Only boutiques, and average pair of jeans is $150.00, and no boutique offers a maternity section.. I think I need to move..

I like The Secret.. IN THEORY.... It just didn't really work for me..

as far as shopping ideas:  i really don't wear many maternity clothes, i just stretch out my regular clothes...but i have found some cute things in the maternity section at old navy...plus, they are very affordable!  not every old navy has a maternity section, but it seems like more and more are offering them now.  you can order online also.

do you have Target in Nantucket?  I'd go for the clearance section on the Maternity clothes and pick out a few.
I don't think that there's anything that would hide it, but maybe help shape it better but I don't know.
I read the Secret and I honestly think its stupid, the only reason I'm "positive" is because I don't let anyone or anything bother me.  "I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do"  I am in charge of my own happyness.

hehe, peeing your pants will be something you get used to as the months move on!!  haha.

girl, stick to the dark colors!  i think that is the only way to hide it!  NEVER EVER wear white tops!  whenever i have my white, form fitting pre-pregnancy tshirts on (ha!) people tell me "you are getting so big!"  when you are pregnant, people seem to think it's okay to say you are big.  again, i am a fan of baby bumps...all shapes and sizes are beautiful to me!  but if you feel you are still in the "ackward stage," that is probably your best bet!

my bump didn't get very big as i was only about 108-110 lbs. when i first learned i was preggo and only gained 15 lbs. throughout! i never got into maternity clothes and all i ever bought was just lil peasant tops with the empire waist that way you could kinda see my bump but not to much! no one really knew how far along i was but you could tell since the rest of my body was small!...with empire waist dresses and tops the waist line hits right below your bb's so it gives you a defined waist line and from there it flows downward and gives you more of an hour glass shape no matter what your size. oh and fitted jackets with seaming under your bb's will emphasize on making you look smaller as well! ...by the way....BE PROUD OF WHAT YOU'VE GOT!  while i was a sophomore in high school i only weighed 88 lbs. and was made fun of because i was so skinny....but my metabolism was out of control so i couldn't really do anything about it and i just ignored everyone's remarks...i told myself that they wished they looked like me and it made me feel even better! I HOPE YOU CAN BE HAPPY WITH YOUR WEIGHT AND DON'T' WORRY WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That made me laugh..

"If you fat and pregnant, then great at least you can have the 9 month chance to eat for 2 with no guilt... "

I appreciate the positivity, I need it.. It's been and continues to be just a sh*t road for me.. I have read The Secret repeatedly.. I am tired of waiting for my luck to turn.. It seems it never does..

Well think of it this way (At least I do) you would be able to loose more than your pre-pregnancy weight after you deliver if you plan on breastfeeding.  food for thought.

I guess I'm trying in my own weird and no BS way to try to help you have a more positive outlook.  Who cares what other people think?  If you fat and pregnant, then great at least you can have the 9 month chance to eat for 2 with no guilt...

Mumita~

That is MUCH easier when you (you seem to anyway) have a positive self image and aren't chubby to begin with..

I am just having a hard time w/ this whole pregnancy..Everything has been such a s**tshow..

I totally think that you should flaunt the belly.  Wear it proudly.  Otherwise people might just wonder whether you are fat or pregnant. I hate it when I don't know if someone is pregnant and I'm guessing but I NEVER ask because then I might get it wrong, so I just totally ignore the belly.
You should start to cherish your pregnancy, if I had not miscarried I probably would be as far along as you are...and I'd be buing sweat pants and moomoo's

i was overweight already before i got pregnant, so i know what you're feeling! i wore my own clothes for a long time because i really didnt gain anything the first 4 months (nausea...ugh! i couldnt eat at all) but when all my pants started getting tight i had to go to the stretchy waist ones, which suck! i am 32 wks now and i am just now getting that typical "baby bump" look. i basically just bought larger sizes in shirts and tried to focus on those babydoll-looking shirts that have the seam right under the boobs, so the rest just flows down.  those will hide it really well, and now that i am having a bump (other than just a fat belly) they still disguise that.  and the belly band helps in some cases, but it's so hot, especially in the summer, when you have to wear it under a shirt and pants, its just another layer of fabric to make you hot.....

i think you may be having an issue too because you are still wearing your own clothes. mine all still fit for a while, but as they got tighter i got more uncomfortable. if you can just buy a few new shirts maybe in one size bigger, it would probably make you feel better.

good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

i usually like to show my bump off with tight shirts and bikinis--ha!  but, as msgorgeous mentioned, black does help to hide it.  i have to wear all black to work and most people didn't even notice i was pregnant till i was about 32 or 33 weeks along...  another suggestion is belly bands. they allow you to wear your regular pants unzipped and slightly disguise your belly.  also, those baggy smock shirts are in style now.  i think they make me look like a big barn, but if you go with that trend, you may be able to hide it--at least for a little while longer.

the early bumps just aren't as cute because they are more like little guts...at least mine was.  mine didn't form into a nice, little, round bump till i was well into my 3rd trimester...in my early 30 weeks...  before that it just looked liked i was drinking too much beer!!  then overnight, i grew a nice, round little bump :-)  you may just being going thru the "ackward stages" as well.

Yeah.. Most maternity clothes are not cute.. That is part of the problem.. I refuse to EVER wear a shirt that says " baby on board." No offense.. Just not my style..

I just ordered a dress online that was totally cute and maternity.. Maybe this will make me feel better.. Oh yeah, I am 19 weeks and havent worn anything maternity yet..

Maybe this is why.. I am still wearing MY clothes, they are just tighter..

I know.. I am still not feeling pregnant.. Just looking it,,..
