Bleeding

by binta1, Jul 21, 2007 12:00AM
I am 32 years old and because of my religion, I have not been sexually active. I have never been pregnant, taken any contractive or have sperm in me. I recently got married. On June 22, 2007, I menustrated and on July 30, 2007 I had sexual intercourse and over the next five days. I believe that I got pregnant on June 30th or some time over the next five days later. All the symptoms have been apparent. On July 30, 2007, I began to experience severe stomach pain. I was taken to the clinic. This was in Senegal, Africa. The nurse gave me a novacaine injection for the pain and it never help. I did inform her that I may be pregnant. The next day after the injection, I began to bleed heavily and followed by large clog of blood. I have gone through a box of pad which is unusual for me since I come on very light. I am wondering if the novacaine injection play any or could have play any part in the heavy bleeding. I believe that an early pregnancy was aborted. I heard of novacaine being use by dentist. Is it safe for relieving stomach pain in early pregnancy? I just want to avoid this in the future.

Hello,

I assume you mean June and not July.  That said, and assuming you have a regular cycle, if you menstruated June 22, 2007, you could have become pregnant from intercourse had ~8 days later.  In a 28 day cycle, if day one is the start of menstruation, a woman would ovulate (ovary produce an egg) around day 14.  Therefore, intercourse had around the time of ovulation has a good chance of resulting in a pregnancy.

Without assessing for the hormone of pregnancy, it will remain uncertain whether you were in fact bleeding from a miscarriage or an unusually heavy menses.

The one time administration of Novacaine should not have had any notable impact on the possible pregnancy.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing
