CD 40 No period, - HPT

by nellybeans, Nov 02, 2009 12:25PM
I went off Nordett on Sept 25 one week b/f the last active pill week to TTC.  Had a period 4 days later and nothing since.  Took OPK when I thought I should be Ovulating and I thought the test were + I had some spotting that week (Oct. 5-9) twinges on one side, everything I was reading was sounding like ovulation pain.  Should have gotten AF around 10/21 and nothing I know it's only 12+ days late w/ 5 - HPT.
Around the 21-22 was extreamly nausous, thought it was AF eventhough never had those symptpoms 10/23 in the pm felt fine.  Haven't had any spotting, cramping ect.. Been extreamly tired last week and now getting better.  Took HPT yesterday -.  Husband says should wait until longer could be hormones still adjusting, could be preg.  I just want to know then reading some of your post saying it has take 12wks + to show + yikes.
Forgot to mention I have been on BC for 10 yrs. ranging from the pill to depo back to the pill.  have been on nordett for 2 years.  Always had AF even when transitioned from depo to pill.
Any advice?????

Hi!
Your husband is probably right.  Sometimes when you stop using oral contraceptives it takes your body awhile to get adjusted and start ovulating again.  It is really difficult to predict when ovulation will occur with that first cycle off pills.  Once you have a menstrual period it will be easier.  Since you have been on birth control for so long, it is possible that you have irregular periods that have been masked by the pills.  If you don't get a period within 6-8 weeks after discontinuing the pill, you may want to ask your doctor about some blood work.  If you were my patient, I would check a preg test, an FSH level, thyroid and prolactin levels.  I would also prescribe progesterone to jump-start your cycle.
I wish you all the best!

Would the progesterone still allow me to get pregnant?  Could they prescribe me prometrium? What is FSH and prolactin?  Thanks for answering, it helps to know these things to ask before you go in!
