Can I Have Kids?

I am almost 26 and haven't had a period in 3 years. Is there some kind of test I can take to find out of I am able to get pregnant? Why did my period go away and how can i get it to come back? I don't have insurance, is there a OTC test I can take? Please help me. I am desperate to find out why it won't come back.

I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe one of the clinics? I think i'd go to the ER if I had to, your being able to see lumps on your pelvis seems concerning.

well i got denied for medicaid. no doctor in st. louis will see me with out $$$ up front. no payment plans. no nothing. i feel hopeless. my mom had 6 kids and im the only girl out of the kids who doesnt have kids! and my mom gave all 6 of her kids away to family members. it's like women who deserve a chance to be a mother dont have the chance and  women who shouldn't even watch kids have lots of kids. what did i do wrong to deserve this.  i never had a mom and all i wanted was to have my own family so i could be a mom i never had.

Oh! I forgot to mention I also ended up in the ER for severe abdominal pain! Stupid Drs. could not find anything wrong and sait was just gas or premenstraul cramps. That's when i had my 1st MRI. The second time when they checked me more calmly and I went to the hospital on my own time the MRI found the cyst. So yeah, all the more reason to ask for one.

I never heard of anyone being able to see a cyst. They are internal and usually obstruct your fallopian tubes if you can see a growth it might be something else like a tumor (no panicking). I think it is possible you have the problem my friend had more than a cyst and if that is the case it is an easy fix. My friend swears she could feel the lumps too and they got bigger and smaller. You said you got tested for STD's and came back negative so you should be okay, though if you had sex after the date of your STD testing you should have it done again. The best way to tell if there is something off in your abdomen of pelvic area is not to have a blood test, but an MRI (Magnetic Reasonance Imaging) the lay you in a bed hoked up to a cylindrical looking machine and slowly move you in as the machine scans your abdomen. It does't take long unless they have you drinnk some dye before hand (drinking the dye is by juice glasses that you drink periodically every few minute and it can help obtain better results.) Actually the 1st time I had an MRI they did not make me drink the dye and it came back normal the second time when i drunk the dye the cyst appeared in the scan. there is no blood test that can test EVERYTHING though that would make veryones life easier. My personal opinion is that an MRI is your best bet and medicaid will cover that (check with them don't just believe me.) Another thing that I noticed happens is that your stomach rumbles a lot and makes loud noises if there is something wrong in your reproductory system so you might wanna pay attention to that. But yeah, go to the Dr. tell him whats going on and ask him to order and MRI for you, And do tell us what happens.

Though it if possible without having a normal period it if very difficult and can be responsible for pregnancy complications and even multiple miscarriages. There is usually multiple conditions that cause irregular periods some more serious than others. I have one or less periods per year but am able to pregnant with a lot of practice (lol) I'm currently prego with twins. But I am with everyone else you need to see a doctor...

Can you feel cysts? I have these lumps around my frontal pelvic area that i thought were just glands or something, that get bigger and smaller. and sometimes hurt pretty bad. I never had a mother before, I was raised by my father and he never knew what to tell me. Before I turned 17, I was on medicaid and I went to Doctors regularly, the only thing that has ever been wrong with me has been abdominal pain. Other than that I always thought i was healthy. Both parents of mine have Hep C. so i get blood tests done at least once a year to see if I come up positive for it. But do they only test for STD's if you are just getting a test done like that? Or do they test you for EVERYTHING if you get your blood taken?

Just like Bcause... it could be a cyst. I've suffered with PCOS for 4 years and 1 and a half years of it I didn't have my period. (This all is starting at age 15).

Here is a piece of additional advice from my personal expirience. When I was 18 I had an ovarian cyst. The annoying little thing was making my period irregular and sometimes it would make it late up to 3 weeks. I also had abdominal pain. Irronically it was so small I had to have an MRI (i think that's what it was, they scaned my stomach and lower abdomen) done twice. The second time it came back showing the cyst. A simple prescription for low estrogen pills helped me get rid of the problem. Also, my friend had a similar problem, but hers made her miss her period 3 months. It was an issue to do with the over production of insuline, which in turn caused some very small stone like growths to block her ovulation, or something like that. My estrogen birthcontrol makes it so if I have sex I will most likely not get pregnant, her pills make her super fertil. Be assured that unless it's ovarian cancer (not to scare you), there is probably still hope. If you do go to the Dr. request the check you up using an MRI (usually if a Dr. orders it you don't get charged an arm and leg) it may be the problem finder. Good luck.

thank you very much. I don't understand why it stopped to begin with. I have not had sex in over 2 years, and I want to make sure I can still have children when the time is right. reading these other 2 answers made me realize how important it is to just get over the fear and go to the doctor. I just hope i have not done too much damage.

Thank you so much for your answer. I have been terrified for over 2 years to go   to a Doctor. I have been to cheap clinics that test you for STD's and pregnancy earlier this year, and I was in ER couple months ago, when i asked the nurse in the ER she said I should make an appointment with a Gyno. I am scared but I do realize that it needs to be addressed by a Doctor immediately. Most people (friends) told me it was from my eating habits, which are not that unhealthy. I just cant thank both of you enough for your answers. I realize now i have been putting this off for way too long, for the fear of  hearing i can't have children.

I have been tested for STD's at a cheap clinic, and they took my blood, it was earlier this year, and i have not had sex in almost 2 years (not lying). My test results came back negative for everything! I am just scared. I was at ER couple months ago for severe abdominal pain, and got another STD/pregnancy test done there, all negative. I am just scared that something else is really wrong. thank you so much for answering me. This has on my mind for way too long.

Clamidia can make you unfertil. If it has been 3 years, the thats too long. Go to your community clinic and have an STD test done. here is only like to do it $15 do som research or call the hospital. Most states have alot of clinics like this you can go to that are relatively cheap and don't ask you for insurance. I agree with the above comment at 26 it is vital that you find out what is going on. I lean towards STD honestly, clamidia specially. People with clamidia often show no sythoms and it is the most common type of STD. Good luck.

If you are not having periods, you are probably not ovulating. If you aren't ovulating, then no you cannot get pregnant naturally; you would have to have a procedure to collect eggs, fertilize them, and implant them in your uterus. There are medications to help your period start if it's something hormonal causing it, but there may be more going on here.

You need to get to a doctor. If you do not have insurance now, what would you plan to do for insurance during a pregnancy? I would look for a clinic that does a sliding fee scale and tell the doctor what's going on. at 26 it is concerning that you have not had periods in years, and you need some hormone tests as well as a physical and pap smear to make sure that there's nothing dangerous going on.

It could be a simple hormone imbalance, which a doctor can help you do. at 26 it is vital that you figure out what's going on with your body, even if you don't choose to get pregnant right away, so please see a doctor however you can. Free clinic, sliding scale clinic, or even just save up the money and see a private doctor once for a full physical.

good luck, but don't ignore this sign from your body; missing periods for so long can be a big red flag to get your health taken care of.
