Can I have Sardines during pregnancy?

Hi,

I am 6 weeks and 2 days pregnant. Can I have Sardines during pregnancy? I heard tuna is nor safe during the pregnancy.

Best regards,

Hello,

Fish high in mercury content should be avoided or limited.  These include shark, tilefish, swordfish, and king mackerel.  Canned, chunk light tuna generally has a lower amount of mercury than other tuna, but still should only be eaten in moderation.

Sardines have a low mercury content, thus up to two 6oz servings per week is okay.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing
