Effects of Percocet before Pregnancy

by AD413, Nov 07, 2009 12:12PM
I have been taking Percocet regularly for a few years. I will be planning to have a child in about a year and want to know if Percocet has any effects on genes or cells that could cause problems for a fetus to properly develop. Should I have some type of test to determine if nothing is damaged due to the long term use of taking them.

Hi!
Percocet does not have any long term effects on fertility and doesn't cause any damage to your eggs.  If you have been taking it for years though, it may be rather difficult to stop!
You might want to consult a doctor who prescribe Suboxone.  It IS important to wean off the Percocet before getting pregnant because the baby will be born addicted and will go through withdrawl if you continue to take it during pregnancy.  If you can't stop completely, try getting down to the lowest possible maintenance dose.
Hope this helps!
