Gestational Diabetes

Ok, so this may be long. Sorry!
Last Friday, I went for my 1hr glucose test. I had to drink the stuff they gave me at home and then go to the lab at the hospital. The directions they gave me said no food or drink between the time I drink it and get my blood drawn. Since then, I've read online that you're not supposed to have anything after a certain time the night before and that they usually draw blood before you drink it as well, but they didn't. And they didn't draw me at the right time. I already hate sweets in the morning, so of course it made me very sick. Then, on Tuesday the nurse called and very rudely told me I was a gestational diabetic because my sugar was a little too high for her liking. I'm like no kidding considering I was drawn early. Anyway, no three hour test was mentioned or anything. So now I'm pretty upset and confused because I generally eat healthily and I feel like if something happens to my baby it'll be all my fault..

When I do my 1 hour, I am not to eat or drink after like midnight the night before.  I make my appt. first thing in the morning.  They take my blood once at the one hour mark of drinking the drink.  And I have to drink the stuff within 5 minutes of me beginning drinking it.  If you failed the test, you may have simply not been given directions properly on what you needed to do.  I would make sure that I either got to repeat the test or that I got the 3 hour.  They shouldn't automatically say that you have gestational diabetes without you failing the 3 hour.

I have 8 kids.  My youngest is 3 months old.  I had never failed one of my tests until this last baby.  I failed the 1 hour and had to do the 3 hour test.  I passed that one.  I also read that they have, for some reason, changed the tolerance allowed for the 1 hour which is causing a lot of false positives.  So again, I would def ask your doc about the 3 hour or to repeat the 1 hour.

My urine has never been checked since I moved states to this new office. I like my doctor, but her nurse isn't very warm. Diabetes runs in my family, but hearing the news was like an instant stressor.

I never took a 3 hr test either. I took the one hour one and also had gestational diabetes. Atyour appts they check your urine for sugar and protein so the dr may have just thought indeed you have it.

gestational diabetes isn't your fault at all . some people that eat healthy still have it because your body reacts different when pregnant.  if you already eat healthy then the diet they put you on to control it shouldn't be s problem . good luck though seems like I wouldwant a new ddoctor .
