Heartburn; Indigestion - Not sure

Hi Everyone,

I am 21 weeks pregnant and I have a question about Heartburn and/or indigestion.  This morning my daughter woke me up at 4:00AM because she was coughing alot (I had only fallen asleep at about 2:30AM - I have a hard time sleeping in the evening because of Anxiety).  Anyway, after she woke up, I went to the washroom and when I got back to my bed that's when the massive pain began.  It was right under my breast, in the middle (I believe it is the upper abdomen but not sure) and it was going right through to my back.  I don't have my gullbladder anymore (had it removed in December 2008) but it felt like a gullbladder attack.  I also felt like I was going to vomit but nothing happened.  I took two rolaids but the pain was still there - it has calmed down now but still have the nauseating feeling and feel extremely tired, eyes are very heavy (but that could be from only 2 hours of sleep).  I was just wondering if anyone can give me some insights on what it can be - if it was infact indigestion and/or heartburn.  I didn't have all these symptoms when I was pregnant with my daughter which is almost 7 years ago which is why this is new to me and I am not sure what to make of it.

PS.: Last night I do remember that at about 8:30 or so I burped and had a very bad taste in my mouth but thought nothing of it.  I also ate some spearamint gum around 11:00PM.

Thanks so much for any help you can give me, it is so greatly appreciated!!!

I have been having really bad indegestion and heartburn as well and that sounds like it could definitly be it. if you continue to get it that bad talk with your Dr about it mine has'nt gone away or gotten any better and my Dr says now the pain is worse, because he thinks it has damaged my esophagus. there are prescription medications that you can take while you are pregnant, my Dr has my on prilosec and it has definitly been helping!!!

Hi Nickie,

Thanks for your response.

I have taken Rolaids but I think I may try the Tums because it happened again during this evening at around the same time.  I am wondering if it is the mint gum that can suddenly be causing it -- I never had a problem with it before but with this pregnancy it is so different from one week to the next and last night because I couldn't sleep and felt mouth a little dry so I ate a mint gum at 1:00AM!!  The night before I didn't have the gum and it didn't happen.  This is very frusturating 'cause the pain is so bad from front to back.

Thanks again for your response, I really appreciate it:-)

It sounds like really bad heartburn... Tums (ive found) are the best thing and you can take them whenever it is needed. I never actually had heartburn when I was pregnant but I had it terrible after my first little boy was born. I took prevacid before I ate or drank anything and it worked miracles. I hope you feel better soon.
