I am 8 weeks and the doctor couldn't find a heartbeat. Should I be concerned?

I am 8 weeks along and I just had an ultrasound on Thursday. The radiologist couldn't find a heartbeat or a baby. All they found was a piece of tissue inside of me. Last year I did have a miscarriage, could this be another miscarriage? Can this be normal? Should I be concerned?

Hi!
I'm afraid I must agree with sandra0526.  By eight weeks, we should see an active baby with a good heartbeat on ultrasound.  If they are not seeing that, there is one of two posibilities--either you are much earlier than you thought--for example 4-5 weeks instead of 8, OR you have what is known as a blighted ovum.  A blighted ovum is a pregnancy in which only the membranes and placental tissue develops, and no baby ever forms.  Obviously, this is not a good sign, and almost always ends in miscarriage.
If it is indeed another miscarriage, ask your doctor to start looking into some causes
for you.
I hope I am wrong.
