I dont know who eles to ask.......

I think my 4 month old had a seizure tonite. He is fine now or eles I would be at the hospital. I plan on making him an appointment tomarrow........... But my question is for mothers who have had childrenn with seizures. What are the signs and symptoms?? MY son started crying kinda funny, I dont how eles to explain it except that it was like he couldnt cry, when I picked him up he got jerky in my arms and got stiff. He started foaming at the mouth, kinda like a rabitt dog. The whole time crying. He looked so scared.  Maybe it wasnt a seizure but I was freaking out. It only lasted about 3-5 minutes but seemed alot longer. Has anyone had any experiance with this?? Any imput would be great. Thank you in advance,
Tabitha

You can also have seizures and have a normal EEG.  If there was no activity going on at the time it would not have shown....well not always.  I hope your little does not have them, but a normal EEG does not rule them out completely.

Thank you so much for your comment! I googled it last night and came up with some interesting stuff. Ever since we came home from the hospital we have been on a mission to find formula that he can handle. I have just chulked it up to a sensitive stomach. But all the symtoms fit.............except the foaming. But even if this is not it, it is something for me to check out. I feel better, feeling like I know something, lol. Im going to see if the doctor will do the test to see if maybe he was missed diagnosed. That would be great (no seizures!!) Again thank you so much for your comment!!!

Yay for good news!!!  Have you ever read anything about Sandifer's?  It is the human's response to pain and is seen a lot in babies who are not treated properly for acid reflux.  I am not very familiar with it, but read about it a lot on a reflux forum I visit (my daughter had acid reflux, but never showed Sandier's symptoms.)  I DO know that all Sandifer symptoms go away when the reflux is under control so that's a good thing!  Feel free to message me if you want to know the reflux forum I visit.  :)

I just googled a little bit and thought it was interesting..."showed signs of seizure but all tests came back normal"...hmmm....

Sandifer's Syndrome
from Southern Medical Journal

Discussion
Sandifer's syndrome (torticollis without spasm of the neck muscles, dystonic body posturing and movements in association with gastroesophageal reflux, with or without a hiatal hernia) has been mistaken for neuromuscular or neuropsychiatric disease.[8] Bray et al[7] described six infants with a misdiagnosis of seizures; four of them were given anticonvulsants until the diagnosis of GERD was made. These patients had normal findings of neurologic examination and normal EEG, and none had required antiepileptic therapy after initiation of treatment for gastroesophageal reflux.[7] Mandel et al[8] described two children with an underlying neurologic dysfunction diagnosed as Sandifer's syndrome. The dystonic posturing of the neck and trunk was initially misinterpreted as a component of their neurologic disorder. As in our patient, all dystonic and seizure-like movements ceased after initiation of gastroesophageal reflux treatment.[8]

Well today we did the EEG. Everything went very well. Dalton was so good through out the whole thing!! You woulda thought he understood the need to be very still:) He got a little fussy the last few minutes but overall he was great! So now I get to just sit and play the waiting game:(  The tech wouldnt tell me anything, he said the neurologist(sp?) has to read the EEG and than get the results to my doctor, who then will hopefully get them to me by Tuesday...............UGH!!! I hate waiting, Im going to try calling Monday morning and start bugging them for answers. The test looked like a bunch of my kids artwork, lol. Just a bunch of scribble, I really hope SOMEONE can read that:)

Thank you all for your concern and prayers. I did end up taking him in and I have a EEG appointment set up for tomorrow. The doctor said it definitly sounded like a seizure and that the next time(if it happens again) to call 911 and get him in right away even if it has stopped and he seems fine. Hopefully we will get some answers from the EEG and it will tell us if anything is wrong. I really hope this was a one time thing I really dont think I could handle another episode like yesterday:(
For now he is back to his smiley self, after all the poking he had to go through. Poor baby:(
Again thank you so much for your comments, wish me luck for tomorrow.

Tabitha.

I hope she did too.  My DD, Beka, has seizures and they did a CT can after her grand mal one to check to make sure that it did not do any brain damage.  I am praying that she took the advice and comes back to update us.  Seizues are definately nothing to mess around with, especially if it is the first one.  3-5 minutes seems like a long time to me.  I was told to get immediate medical attention if Beka's seizures lasted 5 minutes or more.

It definitely has the symptoms of a seizure! Unfortunately I have never seen one so small have a seizure, but my step daughter who is 3 has them.... and that is definitely the symptoms..... they arch or jerk and all muscles tighten.... they cannot speak or cry normally.... and it does last only a minute sometimes up to 3 but it seems like a life time when they are happening.......They dr said she has febrail seizures (sp).....its when a fever comes on very HIGH very fast and causes the body to go in to shock....... did your little guy have a fever at all? I would DEFINITELY take him to the ER..... I dont think its good for one so tiny to have seizures at 4 month! Good luck!!! Keep us posted

My neice has seizures, and that definitely sounds like one. My sister new she had a seizure, and she looked fine afterwards, but the doctor told her ANYTIME a child has a seizure, you go to the ER immediately. ANYTHING can happen, he could have internal injuries you don't see, and he can be acting completely normal. Good luck!

It does sound like your son had a siezure.  I have not had any children with seizures but I am a teacher who works with students that sometimes have seizure disorders.  I would make an appointment for a neurologist to see if he does have a seizure disorder.  He may be really really tired after a seizure too.

If you think your son had a seizure he needs URGENT medical - you need to take him to the ER STRAIGHT AWAY.  It does not matter if he seemed fine afterwards - there are underlying neurologically conditions going on that you cant detect just by looking at him.  If he did have a seizure the cause needs to be found ASAP as a seizure disorder can lead to brain damage if not controlled.

Signs of seizure can include: body jerking, confusion, lose of bodily functions, unconsciousness, foaming at the mouth, posturing (body stiffing, hands in a certain position) etc.

I don't know, but I would take him straight to hospital. That is not normal and not something that you wait calmly for an appointment the next day for..
