Luteal Phase Length

Currently-
CD29
6/7 DPO
AF Due 7/26

My luteal phase is approx. 10/11 days.  I have heard that it should be between 12-16.  I was concerned.  At my yearly Monday, I asked by OBGYN about it, she said that it was fine that mine was 10/11.  What have your doctors' said?

Also, Vitamin B6 can be taken to lengthen this phase correct?  I have been taking a prenatal for 4 months.  It has 20 mg in it.  Is that enough. Or, can I take more to lenthen my luteal phase.

Thanks for your help!

This is what I have found on Vitex: "Vitex agnus castus (chasteberry, vitex) is a traditional herb that has been used historically for hormonal imbalances in women. More recently, numerous clinical research studies have provided evidence for vitex as a important herbal treatment for infertility, female hormonal imbalance, ovulatory irregularity, anovulation, amenorrhea, and other disorders related to hormone function in women. Both of our supplements for fertility contain vitex: FertilAid and Fertility Blend."

I did take FertilAid this cycle. Not sure if I am going to take it again.. I am looking into some other options.

I've heard of the Robitussin but I don't know what Vitex is?! The Robitussin will improve CM.

Don't take FertilAid. There's no proof it works or any FDA backing on that.

Thank you soo much for your responses.

I am just looking into all of my options for next cycle  (maca, B6, FertilAid..nothing :) )

petal88 - Yes, my temp did go back up this morning.  It would be great for a BFP this cycle... then I wouldn't have to worry myself about all of this!

AF is due Saturday.  We will see. : )

Hey Rach if you don't want to take pills try taking a banana or two a day- they said to contain lots of natural B6...  I have been taking a maca and banana home made smoothie every morning for the last 4 weeks and my luteal phase increased from 12 to 14 days this month.  I think it has more to do with the maca but the b6 from banana could have helped too.

Ps. I see your temp has gone up... you never know..x

Start taking it whenever you want. You've already ovulated this cycle so it won't matter if you wait until AF starts or just start taking it now. Do what you feel comfortable with!

i had your EXACT problem...my luteal phase was 9-10 days and i was really concerned. i took 50mg of vitamin b6 along with my prenatals and it increased my luteal phase to 12-13days at my next cycle.  i was actually taking 100mg to start, but decreased it to 50 when i noticed it was helping.  when i first got pregnant, i expressed this luteal phase disfunction to my doctor and asked for her to pay special attention to my progestrone levels.  at 6 weeks of pregnancy, my levels were a little on the low side, but not dangerously low.  she still prescribed progestrone suppositories for me to take during the first 12 weeks till the placenta took over in progestrone production.   i'm now 34 weeks pregnant with a healthy little girl.

good luck to you and let me know if you have any questions :-)

Hi no problem,i read it back and confused myself, since you are due af in a couple of days,i would wait till she shows then start taking it.so start from cd1 carry on all cycle.no breaks from it,what i meant before is some women took it on cd1 and they found it delayed ovulation, (not period, deh) so some women take one pill day after ovulation until there period comes.then stop until after ovulation again.i myself and others i know took it all cycle.i would try it all cycle first see how you get it,if it delays ovulation, then next cycle take it after o,until af,hope that makes more sense....:)

Hi there i just took the one i started taking it day one of my af,some women say it prolonged getting there period, but from all i have read it made no difference when they started it,you may want to first start taking it from the day after ovulation,i took 10mg,you can buy them from any chemist or grocery,it doesnt need to be on perscribtion.so you could take it from ovulation until your period starts..best of luck.

The above is correct, doctors do prefer to see a luteal phase of at least 12 to substain a pregnancy,i was taking b6 as i had a low luteal phase it extended mine first month i took it.4 months after starting it im now pregnant, best of luck..

Anything under 10 means you cannot conceive. You must have more than 10 days in the luteal phase of your cycle in order for implantation to occur. This is what I've researched and found in the past for other women with similar questions.

I would take an extra B6 supplement WITH the prenatal. Speak with the pharamacist, when you do go to get some, about exactly how much would be beneficial. Sometimes too much of something can be harmful, so always ask!
