I am sorry that it took so long to get back to this post. I do not want to do an IUD because I have a severe case of PCOS and it is recommended by my doctor that I do not do the long term birth control. I started taking mood stabilizers and it just so happens that it is a side effect of one of the medications that I am taking. I can't stop the birth control or I would never have a period until I lose another 30 pounds... I am going to talk to my doctor about it on the 29th and see what he has to say but what I was told over the phone was that I either needed stronger hormones (to over come the mood stabilizers) or to completely stop the birth control (which is just not an option; no bc=no period)... but until then I am hoping that my nuva ring has the least amount of hormones that I can get. Thank you ladies for all of your help =)
Like said above, the only non-hormonal BC is the Paragard IUD. The only drawback of it is you might get heavier, more painful periods. I hope you get your cycles worked out soon Nickie!
I have taken the mini pill before. But my understanding is that you should only take this when you are nursing. That is what my doc told me. Once I stopped nursing, he switched me to a regular birth control.
All bc pills have hormones as far as I know. I think there are IUDs that don't. The mini pill is a progesterone only pill.
I have the paraguard iud and it is non hormonal since my body reacts poorly to hormones.
It is common to have breakthrough bleeding when you first start to take bc, or just switched from one type to another. Well, I think your doc meant a bc with hormones that are not 'supposed' to be absorbed by your body.
There was a previous post about the long term side effects of bc. The link is here:

I think it is a very informative read. Tells your about the irreversible damage brought by bc. Are you prescribed because of a condition your doc wants to correct? Or solely for birth control purpose? There are really other options out there. We should know our options and make informed choices regarding things as important as our bodies!
Thanks. You are the only one that replied :( OH well. I called my doctor that prescribed my mood stabilizers and he said that the Trileptal can cause short cycles (I get my period every CD14) and he said that I need to be on a birth control that has no hormones... What kind of birth control has no hormones in it??? Seriously?
I would suspect the birth control, but if you've only been on it for a month then I it couldn't be that. I've read some things that might cause a short cycle likes yours, but I don't believe any of those would really apply. Growing up I had cycles like that, but mine eventually simi balanced and got more spaced out. (Not regular by any means, but there were a few weeks in-between them at least) It's good that you're going to the doctor. They should be able to have better answers for you. Sorry I couldn't help more.
BUMP**
And now the brown spotting has turned into a full blown period... Any thoughts... that means I am having 14 day cycles????? I am so at a loss!
