When I was 6 weeks preg I went to the hospital with a migrain headache.  I am allergic to Imtrex and was informed that Tordidol would be to harmful for my fetus so I was given Demerol.  At 17 weeks I was spotting and went to the hospital to see if everything was ok with my unborn child.  I was given a pap and blood work was done the nurse informed me everything was ok.  The Doctor ordered a ultra-sound to check my baby during the ultra-sound I was told that the tech was unable to see the baby when in all truth the baby was dead.  Later that day the docter came to tell my "unfortunatly your baby's dead"  and left the room only to come back and inform me later that the fetus had died at 6 weeks.  I had a parcial misscariage that night and later had to had to have the rest removed.  The fetus was tested for abnormalities and I was told there was nothing they could find wrong with the fetus.  SO IN YOUR HONEST OPINION  DID THE DEMEROL CAUSE THIS AND SHOULD I HAVE BEEN GIVEN THIS MEDICINE?

Thanks

Hello,

Demerol would not have resulted in your loss.  If indeed your loss was at 6 wks, early losses are quite common occuring in up to 20% of recognized pregnancies.

Perhaps you should follow up with those doctors to review the events that occurred and receive copies of what was documented at your visits.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing

How the hell did they not dectect fetal demise between 6weeks and 17weeks there should have been at least four prenatal visits in that time frame , did they ever hear a heart beat or give you a u/s before that sounds like the whole prenatal care was screwed up, I am so sorry for your loss  I hope you recover quickly , Thank God you didnt develop an infection with in that time frame.
