Please tell me what should I do?

by sue1975, Mar 03, 2008 12:29PM
Hi,

I am 9 weeks and 5 days pregnant. I had a natural miscarriage at 12 weeks on October 27th 2007. I have a plan to travel end of March Toronto to India. Is there any risk to travel because of the miscarriage I had? When I was pregnant first time on 2004, I traveled Toronto to India. At that time, I was 13th or 14th weeks pregnant. I had no problem.

If you kindly advice me that would be tremendously appreciated.

Best regards,
Sue

Hello,

You have no travel restrictions based upon your gestational age.  And I wouldn't attribute a possible miscarriage to the nature of your travel.

And yes, walking regularly during long flights is recommended (at least every two hours or seated lower leg exercises).

Best regards,

Dr. Downing

My RE told me that travel is fine but advised that I get up and walk the plane every hour to prevent blood clots.  Of course every pregnancy is different (I've heard that enough) so it's best to talk to your obgyn who should know you and your pregnancy better than we do.  Wishing you safe travels.
