I have a friend who did it couple times during pregnancy and she never worried about it. She says those chemicals are not a problem. The problem is to be seatted for a long time. So she made sure she walked or was standing up.

If you do have to use lightener all over, it is safe chemically speaking since as previously stated very little chemicals are absorbed through the skin. About the same amount as if you scrub your bathtub with bleach without gloves. Just make sure the area is well ventilated obviously. The only risk, unless your doctor says otherwise, would be unpredictable results due to the increased amount of hormones in your body. Good luck! (And sorry to keep posting, it was supposed to be all one post but the app on my phone is acting funny and is only letting me type so much at a time.)

If you ARE talking about lightening your new growth, matrix so color has a wonderful ultralight series which will have similar effects to lightener but is safe to use directly on the scalp. It will lift 3-4 levels which is what i use on my own hair every 6-8 weeks. My doctor has given it the ok as well. Again double check with your doctor and mention that your pregnant to your stylist.

After 13 weeks its fine :) just make sure your in a well ventilated area.. I just bleached mine, but its definitely not the same.. it felt like I was allergic to it, doctor said it was probably just because I was pregnant and it can cause symptoms, but color looks fine just the 30 min it was on was misreble

Lightener (aka bleach) is safe to use during pregnancy. Typically it is only used for high lighting which is done with either foils or a cap and does not come in contact with the skin. However she said dye which would mean hair color from my understanding and that is safe to use on the scalp. I always recommend my client check with their doctors as every pregnancy is different and some doctors prefer you wait until after the first trimester. As far as box colors or at home dyes, i never recommend those as they do contain metallic salts which can react adversely with professional products and are very unpredictable in their results. If you are concerned though, always ask your doctor but more than likely you will get a green light :)

Hair bleach is different apparently that person hasn't been in the field long because their statement is completely incorrect! And at home color has more chemical compounds and metallic dyes, which can cause your color to come out funky.

At 14 weeks you can. I know this site says 13 weeks is the start of your second trimester, but I asked my doctor and she said 14 weeks is the 2nd trimester.

I just figured bleach wasn't ob ecause I used to work around bleach & my doctor wrote me a note to take to work so they would keep me away from it, but maybe it's different with hair? Idk lol.

Summer is completely correct ^^^ i am a cosmetology instructor and it is safe. Very little if any color is absorbed through the scalp. Just make sure your in a well ventilated area and you'll be fine :)

From personal experience color may not look like it used to and may not stick like its supposed to. i dyed my hair a week ago the normal red that i do and it was kinda purplish but its faded to an ugly brown now. id rather it be brown than purple but its still ugly. just keep that in mind.

Like others said, the only problem is the chemicals but in most now days you can find "natural" hair dyes that work just the same even in the store bought ones. It's also the ammonia that is used in the processing solution that you breathe in. But women did it for years without any problems so I don't see it as a bad thing. I got mine done 3 times my first pregnancy and 4 times so far this one. There's also that chance of it not catching in your hair or your hormones changing the colors so if you've notices any significant difference in your hair since you found out I'd say ask your hair stylist what they think. My hair hasn't changed at all with all my hormones so I never have any problems with the dye. My mom is a cosmetologist and I'm going to school for it and I wouldn't do anything she didn't think was alright enough to do.

I bleach my new growth every 6 weeks. You're fine. I'm also a cosmetologist and I have done research on this for my clients and myself. Very little if any chemicals at all are absorbed from hair color. The main concern is the fumes. So be in a well ventilated area

It's safe to go to a salon and get your hair dyed but not safe to do the store bought boxes of hair due because of all the chemicals they add into them

It depends , with my first pregnancy i was high risk due to my cervix & my dr said not to dye my hair until 25 weeks. If you are having a normal healthy pregnancy than after the first trimester it is okay to dye it.

It's fine after the first trimester if you have it done in a professional salon with professional hair color and bleach is ok as well
