Progesterone and Ectopic

by fuzzbeck, Aug 25, 2009 10:15AM
Hello,
Just a brief history, I had and ectopic pregnancy 2 months ago in June. Prior to that I had some abnormal vaginal bleeding which is how they found it. My HCG's rose but did not double and my progesterone was around 19 and fell to 16. I just found out last week at 3 weeks that I am pregnant, My first HCG was 60 and 48 hours it rose to 152. My progesterone was 40 but dropped to 35. Im worried that my progesterone is dropping, but my MD said that progesterone fluctuates and its still really good. He said not to worry so much because with a progesterone that high, its most likely an intrauterine pregnancy. I will go for an ultrasound next week when my numbers are higher. Im freaking out about any little cramp I get or if my breasts aren't as tender. Could my progesterone have started out high last time and have fallen. Do they fluctuate.
Thank you,
Becky

Hi!
Yes, progesterone levels fluctuate. If the number is less than 10, we get concerned about a non-viable pregnancy.  So you see, your number is really good.
If you were my patient, I would probably not check any more progesterone levels.  I would continue checking quantitative HCG until the numbers were over 2000.  At that point, I would do an ultrasound to locate the pregnancy.
I certainly hope everything is where it belongs!
Good luck!
