Hello,

By definition, pre-eclampsia and gestational hypertension result in elevations in BP after 20 weeks of gestation.

Some of what you are experiencing is the normal physiologic change that occurs in pregnancy.  There is no preventing this.

If you already have elevations in blood pressure this suggest you have chronic hypertension being unmasked in pregnancy.  This does put you at an increased risk of developing pre-eclampsia or worsening hypertension later in the pregnancy.  Continue close follow up with your ob/gyn.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing

Hi
I dont think swelling ness means pre-ec but it is a good idea to keep check of your blood pressure. Dont no about preventing it but you can ease it by laying on your back with your legs above heart level for the fluid to drain back down. Please be careful though as laying on your back is not advised after so many months pregnancy because of a certain vien that gets squashed that carries oxygen to baby.. I had it with my last its so horrible. Best of luck. :-)
