I don't think they can take blood from a pregnant woman, pinkbelle. It's too dangerous in a pregnant woman.

You don't have to get the Rhogam shot if your hubby/father of baby is also negative. Because if he is negative, then baby will have negative blood and all is well! So if he is negative, you don't have to get it.

I am not sure what I am... *LOL* But I know that there is nothing to worry about having the shot.... You'll have one 72 hours after the baby is born to build the rh factor up in your body more so if you become pregnant again, your body can fight it off........

From webmd.com
Type O-negative blood does not have any antigens. It is called the "universal donor" type because it is compatible TO GIVE with any blood type. Type AB-positive blood is called the "universal recipient" type because a person who has it can RECEIVE blood of any type.

When I donated blood before i found out I was pregnant I discovered my blood type is A Negative so I have to have the shot too, I'm nervous about it just bc I had a miscarriage before and wasn't given the shot and they say you need it, but my nurse doesn't seem too concerned. i'll talk to the dr more tuesday

I am AB- which is extremely rare. the rhogam shot doesnt hurt anymore then anyother intramuscular injection, usually it is given at 28 weeks then 72 hours after birth, I had to have it for my first daughter, and will undoubtly have it again with this pregnancy. o- is not the universal donor becauseits RH negative, you can only receive RH negative blood..

Getting the rhogam doesn't hurt too much... why that nurse would tell you that even if it did hurt real bad is beyond me.  Maybe her life is so miserable, she takes joy in hurting others.  Look at the bright side, O- is called the universal donor  because no matter what blood type you have, you can receive blood from someone who is O-.  So you could give blood (after your baby is born) and maybe save another baby's life.
