The mysterious pregnancy
Well, there's this girl whom says she is pregnant with my baby. The ONLY time the baby could have been conceived was on Jan 1st, 2010. She "found out" on the 14th of Jan and told me on the 18th. She lives 7 hours away from me atm. I don't want to run from this, I am manning up and am contemplating on moving her to my location. She sent me a picture of the pregnancy test with 2 lines. Today she had a doctors appointment, sent me a picture with her in it of her getting an ultra sound, then one of the ultrasound close up (I have posted a picture.). As of today that should be an ultrasound after 4.5 weeks. Okay, so I was convinced. Until she told me that she got to hear it's heartbeat. Is this possible? After some research the ultrasound doesn't look like other ultrasounds after 4 weeks, and the articles I've found say the earliest a heartbeat can be heard is at 6 weeks. Thanks in advance!

I kind of skimmed over the other replies so sorry if it's a duplicate. However, I know when I had an ultrasound at 5 weeks 6 days they did SEE the heartbeat. It was just a tiny little flutter attached to a little blob that looked nothing like a baby yet.
Anyhow I agree it could possibly be yours, but if you still have doubts get a paternity test.
Intresting point.... in some states if you live with the woman while she is pregnant and are present at the time of birth they will put you down as the father and a paternity test can only be done if both parents agree to it. Not trying to be negative. It's just that my husband had a problem like that once before and after a paternity test found out he is NOT the father, but according to the state of AZ because they lived together he's on the hook until she's 18.

If the pic she sent you is as cloudy as the pic you posted here (of the ultrasound) then I'd start to doubt it. Tell her you wanna see the ultrasound with her name on it. Then again a pic can always get shopped....unless you get the original! But I agree, paternity test! when in doubt!
Like the others have said, if she conceived on Jan 1st, she would be six weeks pregnant (since pregnancy is based on LMP and not conception) and could have easily seen the heartbeat. It is very possible the baby is yours, based on your information. Caution is in order, but the dates do match up. If still worried, get a paternity test after the baby is born.
Can't judge by the picture but wanted to say that when she found out she was pregnant was plenty of time for it to be yours. I would just hold out for that paternity test. Be involved but cautious if she's been with someone else, ya know? I wouldn't invest money in baby things just yet.

If her Af was around the 13th December, a doctor would say 7 weeks pregnant as of last week. But she has to have conceived at least 2 weeks after after AF started meaning she would have been 5 weeks pregnant last week.
A doctor always gives an extra 2 weeks from date of AF but you don't actually conceive until at least 14 days or more depending on how long her cycle is. The fact this woman is keeping you updated on her scans and informing you when she found out she was pregnant makes me want to believe the child is yours. I wish you all the luck in the world!!

you can google images of ultrasounds at 5,6,7 + weeks....a comparison would should that picture is about 6+ weeks

I saw my babies heart beat at 5 weeks 2 days and that looks like a fetal sac and pole so I say that she is around the 5-6 week mark. Right on time for when you would of got her pregnant. But they should of told her a due dae and the earlier the give the more accurate it is!
I'd want to be sure too. If she broke up with her boyfriend in Oct, there's no way the ultrasound would look like it does, it'd look more like a baby and be bigger. I can't tell you she didn't sleep with anyone else, only she knows that. If you still question her loyalty then like I said only a DNA test will prove it, but as for the dates they sound about right.
She had a boyfriend of a pretty extensive amount of time but they broke up in October 09, and she said she had her period since then, she told me I'm the only person she had slept with since then. But with the long distance situation, and the effort and money I have to put in to move her to my location, as previously stated, I want to be extra sure.
You're welcome. I didn't know about the whole "first day of last period being pregnant" either. I was 7 weeks at my first appointment and I wasn't with my husband for the first two weeks of the 7, I freaked out because I thought the doctor was trying to tell me I had cheated on my husband, which is NOT true. I didn't find out until I was 30 weeks pregnant about the first day of the last period being the day they consider you pregnant. Up until then my husband and I assumed my first doctor was wrong and I was 2 weeks earlier than she said. But, she was right. I was what she said. I'm glad I cleared that up for you, it is kind of confusing but it makes sense in the end. Well I hope everything works out ok for you.
SMJMEKG: Thanks for the information, that's new to me. That's the kind of information I am looking for. She said she thinks she started her last period on the 13th "or so" of December.
Do you know if she was having sex with anyone else? If she was the only way to tell for sure if the baby is yours is a DNA test, but if she only had sex with you, then you know it's yours.
Right. I feel the same way, but now it's one of those "is it mine?" situations. The fact that she said she saw a heartbeat and the fact that she doesn't know a due date yet (even after an ultrasound) just has me double checking. I can't go to her appointments right now, which is why I'm asking for more experienced input here to make a more educated decision on whether I can know confidently that this is mine. I am absolutely sure that Jan 1st, 2010 is when we had sex. Happy new year.
How are you getting how far along she is? If you're going by you having sex on Jan 1, that's not how far she'd be. The gestational age is usually based off the first day of your (her) last period. Ovulation takes place about 14 days before the next period is due, and if you only had sex Jan 1, then she would be more like 6 weeks pregnant. For example, I got pregnant with my son in 2007, my last period was Oct 3 but I got pregnant on or around Oct 17. They counted me as being "pregnant" from Oct 3. They do this because it's impossible to know the exact moment when you ovulate, or to know when the egg has implanted which is usually 6-12 days after ovulation. It does make sense to me for her to see a heartbeat.
but honestly if you see a picture with her getting an ultrasound i wouldn't question it too much...you can't fake that. at least the fact that she's pregnant but she might be farther along i dont know.
well i dont know about the due date, but you normally see a heartbeat at about 6 or 7 weeks. she shouldn't have seen a baby that early, just a sac, if that.

She also claims they told her that they couldn't give her a due date yet, but I've been told that is probably false information.
It defiantly looks like it could be a u/s for 4 or 5 weeks. your sure the only time you had sex was the first of January? And yes usually they dont detect a heart beat until 6 weeks. I dont know, Id say get more information. If you have to. If shes not giving you the information you want, then insists that your going to the next appointment with her. and they you can ask questions yourself. Good luck
