I would call the endocrinologist and try to get a script over the phone. It takes a long time to get into see those guys. Often OBGYN's pass it off endocrinologist and don't take care of it right away. Then schedule follow up appointments with your endocrinologist for each trimester and following the birth of your child. These are all times when your thyroid can change. then you know you will be able to get in.
I hope you have seen an endo. I just, at 8 weeks pregnant, found out TSH is 13. I was seen right away, and believe if you inform them that you are pregnat they will also see you. Good luck and any info you may have for me would be most apprectiated, as I never knew I was hypothyroid, and am very anxious about my pregnancy now. Take care.
Hello,
Needing to increase the dosage of synthroid during a pregnancy is quite common. This is due to the expected increase in blood plasma that occurs during pregnancy (and peaks around 32 weeks). A visit with an endocrinologist is a good idea, but in the meantime your ob/gyn should increase your dose. A fetal growth scan around 28-32 weeks is probably not a bad idea either.
Best regards,
Dr. Downing
DONOT INCREASE YOUR MEDS WITHOUT YOUR DOCTORS AUTHORIZATION!!!! if your doctor didnt instruct you to take more than dont !!!! that is extreamely dangerous. if you take more than you need to you will only put your thyroid out of wack even more. It is normal for your thyroid to change once you are pregnant becuase yoru hormone levels change. I never had a thyroid problem until gave birth to my son. But after several year it went back to normal and I no longer need meds. So just follow your doctors orders. Also your obgyn should be able to refer you to some good endocrinologists!
