VERY UPSET!! Just got back from doctor (about spotting)

Well I did call my doc this morning about my spotting. She's out of town, so they sent me to doc on call. They did an ultrasound and saw NOTHING. No baby, no sac, nothing (at least they didn't tell me if they did). The doc stuck his head in during the ultrasound and looked at it, and ordered an HCG quantative. He then made some comment about "there look to be a lot of lakes in there". I have NO IDEA what this meant! I am so confused, sad, don't know what to think right now.
I know it's early, I'm only 5 weeks 3 days, so maybe that's why they couldn't see anything??WHy did they put me through this? I don't know why or how the doc could be so cold to me. At one point I asked him if I'm preggos or not and he said there's no way to know until Sat when we get the results back. I didn't push it because I was sitting there naked with an ultrasound stick inside, and I thought the doc would talk more to me about this after I got dressed. I never saw him again. Went for my lab work and they told me I was done.
I called my regular doc's receptionist and she tried hard to help me..I have an appt with my regular OB on Monday. Please pray for me..I don't know how to feel right now.

eddieblair,
I am always so confused with my due dates because some go off of the day you conceived and some go off date of your last period.  They always tell me I am two weeks earlier at the doctors too because they go from the day the sperm met the egg, and most websites go off of the actual age of the egg.  Some say you are pregnant for 38 weeks some say 40.  I think you are just having the same issue.   Who knows what is right?  Once you are farther along it doesn't matter too much, but now it makes such a difference on our levels and what we see.  So frustrating ;)

My first HCG bloodwork results came back at 3465, so I feel pretty good about it so far. We'll seehow it goes tomorrow.

Yeah that is why they do not like when you go to the Dr before 8 weeks, and some dr's say 12. And when it is so early sometimes since they cant tell if your preggo, they also treat you diff, then if you have a big belly, some dr's are Jerks, i mean its okay if they dont know, but they should have some sort of great ability to talk to patients to help them understand things, instead of having to come on here and ask us, Dr's are stupid sometimes, not all, but i have had my share of them. Good luck im sure you are fine and it is too early to tell, Don't just go by your pos prego test cause i got a pos 17 days after i had a chemical preg, so dont go by that. I would just relax, im sure it is fine. let us know how you make out!

Honey I'm gonna be honest with you...  I think you're perfectly fine.  It's too early to see anything but fluid "lakes" in your u/s.  The heart has barely formed it's chambers and started to beat yet.  Don't let them get u all in a knot b/c of this.  Just pray and have faith that this pregnancy is for you to have.  I will pray for you and your strength.  You've got a lot of support here so don't forget that.  Best wishes sweetie --- belly buddies!!!

i am also around 5wks but HCG level test (a week ago) showed that I am 3rd week..it's kinda delay and according to dr he have 3 other patients with the same problem. the worst part is I've been spotting for more than 5 days.. (4 days in a row and some in and out last week)
been worried too much about this spotting.
and when he did ultrasound yesterday it showed nothing yet except for a tiny dot that he thought might be the fetus. well I guess i will find out next week.
I hope your pregnancy is ok and soon you can see your bundle of joy..

My doctor wouldn't even do an ultrasound until 8+ weeks.  They did  measure my HCG beforehand when I first got pregnant over the course of a few days to make sure it was increasing.  As long as that looks good, I wouldn't worry about not being able to see anything w/ the U/S.  Best of luck to you! :-)

Thinking positive for you! 7000 HCG is great! But you are right, this is just the beginning lol. I'm going to be a new mom too, I'm only 24 weeks and not one day goes by that I don't worry about something with the baby! But now that I can feel her kicks I just get worried when she doesn't kick.

Update:
My HCG levels are great around 7000 (just what they are suppose to be), and all they could see was a gestational sac which measured good.  Too early to see fetal pole or heartbeat, and she scheduled another ultrasound a week from today to follow up.  My pain is coming from my ovarian cyst which looks quite deflated since last week, so they think it ruptured.  There is no fluid that would be harmful to my pregnancy so that is good.  Again, still a waiting game no heartbeat yet.  You know what they say this is the start of like 18 years of worrying with being a parent HAHA.  I had a miscarrige in June where I saw my babies heart beat, then it died two days later.  I didn't know until I was 11 weeks.  I feel I cannot enjoy my pregnancy until I see my baby swimming around 12+ weeks :)
Please let me know how you are you are for sure in my thoughts.  Please try to think positive (I know its a struggle) but it helps.

Here is another:

What is the significance of a placental lake?
Placental lakes are enlarged spaces in the placenta filled with maternal blood. These spaces are also called intervillous spaces because they are found between the placental villi the finger-like projections of the placenta that contain fetal blood vessels . The placental villi float in the intervillous spaces and absorb oxygen and nutrients from the maternal blood.

The blood-filled placental lakes appear nearly black (white arrows) on ultrasound because they do not reflect soundwaves back to the ultrasound machine. Placental lakes can be seen within the placenta or on the fetal surface of the placenta bulging into the amniotic cavity. Slow swirling blood flow (larger arrow) may be seen within the spaces, and the shape of the spaces tends to change with uterine contractions. These features may help to distinguish a placental lakes from a thrombus.

Placental lakes are considered to be a normal finding in most cases. However, multiple placental lakes seen early in pregnancy in association with decreased umbilical artery blood flow have  been associated with fetal growth restriction. In a patient with placenta previa and previous uterine surgery multiple placental lakes should raise suspicion for placenta accreta or percreta. Multiple placental lakes may also mimic gestational trophoblastic disease.

Synonyms: Placental vascular lacunae, placental caverns, placental venous lakes, placental sonolucencies.

Bull!!!!!

Screw this!!! I will copy and past some answers....here is one:

"A venous lake is a collection of slow moving or pooled blood between the placenta and the uterus wall. Unless you have had uterine surgery, intense cramping, abdominal tenderness, or vaginal bleeding, don't worry. Many women will have one or two venous lakes by the third trimester, it's normal. Some doctors will not even bother discussing a finding of a venous lake because it's common and usually insignificant.

Venous lakes can also be caused by subchorionic hematomas, or small clots that form between the layers of the placenta. Again, this is nothing uncommon, and will normally heal on it's own. If this is the case, your doctor may suggest bed rest."

I agree with Heather if you're really upset you should definitely go to the ER you'll know in a matter of hours at least SOMEthing....but like I said 5wks is probably still too early and it really doesn't mean anything....Please keep us updated, and good luck

Thank you that makes me feel better. I know I'm pregnant, because when I left I went and took another test and it was positive IMMEDIATELY!! Yes I'm going back for bloodwork on Saturday, but won't get to find out results until Monday.

Thanks for your thoughts :)

I am sorry you are going through this and I will keep you in my prayers.  It is for sure too soon to see anything.  Your HCG would have to be around 1500 for them to see anything in your uterus.  I am about as far along as you and I have been having really bad stomach pain for about 3 weeks on one side only.  Had an ultrasound last week, but since I wasn't far along enough they couldn't see if the baby was in the same spot or not (could only say HCG was appropriate for how far along I was).  Had another follow up today and I hoping they saw something, but again it still might be too soon and I am in the same waiting boat as you (I do have a cyst on my ovary so it may be that causing the pain).  I know it's hard not to worry, but it is not doing you any good.  Try to relax, and go the ER if you can.  They usually get results back immediatly and will run the same tests if you can't wait until Saturday.  Good luck to you and keep me posted.

I'm really sorry...the uncertainty and the waiting is the WORST, and it's even worse when you go to get answers and the doctor isn't forthright with you. I started spotting at 7wk2d with this pregnancy and went in....everything looked good, but I had fluid in my uterus...maybe what your doctor meant by "lakes"? Anyway, the cause was apparently a burst cyst that occurred while I was asleep and my cervix was letting it leak out and appearing as spotting. At 5wks it may still be too early, so just try to hang in there....the results of the blood test MAY tell you more, but it may take until the appointment with your OB to get another ultrasound....I'll definitely send some prayers your way, don't give up it's not all over yet.
