Zoloft & Pregnancy????

i have mild to acute depression and acute anxiety. i was on low dose of effexor for 6 months and stopped when i got pregnant. sadly, my husband and i miscarried (we don't know if the effexor had anything to do with it). we are now trying to conceive but my anxiety and depression is surfacing again. i've heard that zoloft, especially a low dose, is a lot safer to take than effexor. if anyone has taken it during pregnancy please give me some feed back. i want to make an educated decision. i'm posting this in the depression forum too.

I actually stayed on Zoloft during my entire pregnancy.  I maintained my dose of 75mg The entire time as well.  I Talked to my Dr. about stopping in the 3rd trimester(due to the risk of the baby being born addicted) and she told me that in all her years of dealing with women on Zoloft during pregnancy, she hadnt seen a baby have a problem and that she felt the benefit outweighed the risk for me.  My baby was born completely healthy..no problems at all.  I know that this wont be the case for everyone but I wanted to share my experience with you.

I was on lexapro for a few years but i stopped when i got pregnant the last time.  AFter having the baby I knew i needed to go back on something so i chose zoloft.  I took it while i was nursing and there seemed to be no affects to the baby at all...and zoloft has worked MUCH better for me than lexapro...if i get pregnant again i do plan to stay on the zoloft

Several SSRI's can be taken during pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks.  Zoloft, Prozac, and Celexa are a few examples of Class C antidepressants that fit into this category.  In general, its best to avoid these medications during the 1st trimester, if at all possible, and depending on the dosage you are on you may need to tapper down before delivery as some baby's do experience mild-moderate withdrawal symptoms after delivery.

Visteral can be taken during pregnancy for panic attacks.  It is a relatively pregnancy safe version of Xanax that is taken on an as-needed basis (it is also used to help one sleep and with allergies during pregnancy).
