Anyone have the depo shot as a previous birth control ? How did you like it? What were your side effects ?

My friend was on the shot and she has been off it for a year and trying to conceive, and she is having an extremely hard time conceiving. Her doctor told her it was likely because of the shot. She did conceive once and miscarried at 6 weeks. This is the biggest reason she never ever recommends anyone start depo.

To answer your question, it obviously did it's job but with a big price. I only took the shot once and had the longest 3 months of my lif:P it is not a good birth control to be on if you are trying to get pregnant. Some get pregnant right away and others such as myself ended up having a very very screwed up cycle and it took me a year to get pregnant.

I was on the shot for 3 years and i liked it. I lost about 10-15 pounds. The only thing i didnt like is that it took me 4 years after i got off it to concieve. Im now expecting my first son with my fiance. Everyone has different reactions to the shot. I would always get it in my arm bc i was scared to get it in the butt and i wouldnt be able to move my arm for a day or so but it was well worth not having a period.

I was on the depo for almost two years.  It was great for me.  No period after the first couple months. I did gain some weight.  Probably 20 pounds over the two years but for someone who had aweful periods the trade off was worth it. I was on just about every birth control option and this was by far the best.  No big side effects just some spotting when shot was due and sore butt at place of injection for a couple days. Now married and wanting to start a family I am ten months from my last shot and have not conceived yet but if you factor that into your future plans my doctor said a year to two to conceive after stopping the shot. All and all good experience with it

I got one shot of depo and gained 30lbs & it took me over a year to get pregnant after i got off it .

I had it the first 3 months and I had all the bad side effects.felt like I was hit by a car my head hurt do much I went to the er

It was a love hate situation for me, i loved not having my period, but hated that i put on weight and could not loose an ounce no matter how much i worked out or how much fasting i did, i lost a lot of hair, and i was moody, this time my husband is getting a vasectomy or he can say hello to condoms

I was on depo for over a year and loved it. I stayed on my period the first 2 weeks I got it and after that I never had a period I gained 6 pounds on it and I've been off of it for 2 months and I've lost 8 pounds already. Its very effective and stopped my acne.

I had no side effects other than no period. I've been on several different birth controls bc of cysts and endometriosis. Depo was one of my favorites other than the bar in my arm. Which is what I had most recently. Everyone's body reacts different to birth controls though.

I had it when I was in high school I didn't have a period at all. I didn't gain weight either.

I has it and hated it. I gained a lot of weight (and no I didn't overeat) , I bled for 6 months straight without stopping because of it, the whole experience was just horrible. I didn't get pregnant on it but I had to go on the pill to straighten my periods back out and after I quit the shot I lost the weight quick. Took me a year after the shot to get pregnant again

I actually gained alot of weight but didnt lose any hair like the other ladies say. When i got off ithe depo it took bout 8 months afta tryin to get prego . I mean it works but dere is alot of side effects.

I didnt like it. I lost 10 lbs when i was only 100 at the time and i bled the whole 3 months. But not everyone has the same reaction. My Sister didnt get her period and gained a lot of weight

Omg. No not my hair id go crazy. Sorry to hear that!! & but did you get pregnant on it? Was it effective birth control?

I started losing mass amounts of hair:( I didn't want to wash, brush, or touch, my head. Seriously,I would run my fingers through my hair and clumps would come out. I cried and cried, so Suprised I didn't get bald spots! I also gained a little weight. I have seen the depo do more harm than good to a lot of people. Take with caution!!

I liked it. I didn't really eat much for a few days after I got the shot each time but I would get my appetite back.that was about it. I didn't gain any weight with it.
