do piercings effect breast feeding?

I had both nipples done but took them out at about 9 weeks for them to completely grow over so i can breast feed when the time comes......but now im being told that it may cause problems nursing? Anyone have any problem with this situation or is it another myth?

I had mine pierced in high school, and have had them out for about four years now. The weirdest thing is that my colostrum will leak out of the holes in one of my boobs. But I have plenty of colostrum, and it leaks out of my nipples too. I'll also note that I was stupid and didn't get them professionally done, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. But it depends where they pierced, usually it doesn't affect anything but you never know. A  breastfeeding/lactation consultant would definitely have a better answer.

It depends on if they went through the duct or not.

There should be a lactation nurse at the Labor and delivery unit of the hospital. She help new mommys get used to breast feeding while still in hospital. Call up there and ask I'm sure she has seen all kinds of that stuff.
