THANK YOU!!!
i KNOW my dates, and my lasst lmp was 12/11/07-12/16/07
i TOLD him that, however at the time he did the u/s, i would have been like um ,lemme count back! ok 16 or 17 weeks according to me and the midwife, but he says no way, the baby was only measuring 13 1/2 weeks.....but i forgot i had met the midwfe till she called at midnight last night!(said she had a "feeling" and felt she needed to call me!).....and i told her what the dr said, and she said "no, if you were 13 weeks on april 22, i would NEVER have been able to find a heart beat 8 weeks earlier(on feb 21, you would have been barely 3 weeks pregnant according to your ob".....so she is saying to find a new dr, that its possible that my *bad habit of smoking* is causing a small baby, or i haven't stepped up my diet(alot has been going on, and it's making me not want to eat alot).....but yes, i told my dr about my LMP, and he put it in the u/s thingy, but it still said i was only measuring 13 1/2 weeks(according to the CRL of the baby), and i have an appt on may 20, but when i go to renew my medicaid tomorrow(it was temp till proof of preg), i am going to ask for a local doctor.....i've just known him a long time, and thought the (at the time) 1 1/2 drive was worth it. now i'm not so sure...
but thanks, cos like i said i know this is long, but i knew something was up with the dates, and for some reason i couldnt figure out what it was, until the midwife called me last night! then it clicked...! the heartbeart!
If implantation takes place at 3 weeks, how can you find/hear a heartbeat? I found this info on mayoclinic.com and it suggests that the heart is only starting to develop at 5 weeks. You probably couldn't hear it at 5 weeks, but see it. I'm confused....
Week 3: Implantation
The zygote — by this time made up of about 500 cells — is now known as a blastocyst. When it reaches your uterus, the blastocyst will burrow into the uterine wall for nourishment. The placenta, which will nourish your baby throughout the pregnancy, also begins to form.
By the end of this week, you may be celebrating a positive pregnancy test.
Week 4: The embryonic period begins
The fourth week marks the beginning of the embryonic period, when the baby's brain, spinal cord, heart and other organs begin to form. Your baby is now 1/25 of an inch long.
The embryo is now made of three layers. The top layer — the ectoderm — will give rise to a groove along the midline of your baby's body. This will become the neural tube, where your baby's brain, spinal cord, spinal nerves and backbone will develop.
Your baby's heart and a primitive circulatory system will form in the middle layer of cells — the mesoderm. This layer of cells will also serve as the foundation for your baby's bones, muscles, kidneys and much of the reproductive system.
The inner layer of cells — the endoderm — will become a simple tube lined with mucous membranes. Your baby's lungs, intestines and bladder will develop here.
Week 5: Baby's heart begins to beat
Your baby at week five (three weeks after conception)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At week five, your baby is 1/17 of an inch long — about the size of the tip of a pen.
This week, your baby's heart and circulatory system are taking shape. Your baby's blood vessels will complete a circuit, and his or her heart will begin to beat. Although you won't be able to hear it yet, the motion of your baby's beating heart may be detected with an ultrasound exam.
With these changes, blood circulation begins — making the circulatory system the first functioning organ system.
Yeah it's impossible to detect a heartbeat at 3 weeks so the doc must be totally off. He was going by what he saw (or lack thereof) instead of investigating further. Go with someone you trust! I went through a few doctors before finding the BEST ONE OUT THERE! So don't give up.
I believe that's what she's trying to say, they found the heartbeat but from the date her midwife found it, in accordance with her Dr.s dates, it would have been 3 weeks, which seems off to her as well. That's how I took it anyway..So it really sounds like her doctor doesn't listen and just thinks he's right. Time for a new one I say. lol
when was your last period? have you tried the due date calculators to give you an estimated due date and then compare them to the ob/gyn and the mid wifes
Did I read that right? Your Midwife found a heartbeat at just 3 weeks? I didn't think a heart started to beat until around the 4-5th weeks and wasn't strong enough to hear until around 6 weeks. Or atleast that's what I've read in several journals....
for me i say find a doctor or midwife that will 1)listen to you. 2) make sure to find out exactally what is up with your dates and baby measurements.....I have the best doc. in the world and I believe its very important to have a good relationship with your doc. You need to be on the same page or atleast close to it! Go get another Doc to atleast check you and get an U/S done...
Good Luck! How far along are you supposed to be and what was baby measuring?
Haha, no I wasn't annoyed I just wanted to state my point briefly, it's early and I'm tired. :P But I know some people think it's important to follow-up with your doctor, but I would totally agree that a second opinion would be the best. So you should look for a new doctor. Don't you know yout LMP dates or anything to help find your correct due date? They most often go by the ultrasound dates, and a baby at 3 weeks is really unlikely to be measuring "small" because the growth rates tend to vary more greatly as you get farther along, so it seems to me you should go with your gut instinct if you think the doctor is wrong. Like I said, they may try to induce you early, especially if it seems they aren't listening to what you have to say.
Good luck
lol sry it seems like i annoyed you! but thx for the reply, i just emailed fiance, and he said the same thing, or at least find another dr as the midwife i saw won't accept medicaid.....but thanks for the reply! i'm really sorry i kept pushing that, and i knew there was a reason, and it wasn't until she called, that i remember why!
Well if you trust your midwife more, then go back to her! Wrong due dates can make them want to induce you if you go slightly over, when the baby is actually not even term yet.
**bump please**
i know you guys said follow my dr, something about unhealthy, but this is important to me
