labor pain medication options?

This is my 3rd pregnancy.

With my first, I was given cervadil to help induce labor, this was done at 5pm, at around 10pm the nurse gave me a shot of demerol to help me sleep cause nothing was happening. By midnight labor started and out she came 2.5hrs later, very fast! I don't consider this being medicated just cause it was done 4hrs before I was pushing.

With my second, I went into labor on my own and was really fast too. Labor started around midnight and by 2:30am she was born with no meds OUCH! back labor!!!

With this pregnancy I am considering some form of meds just cause I've done the none medicated and glad I did but its actually kind of making me really nervous and I almost dread the day it comes. I just don't know what meds would work best for me because my labor and delivery is VERY fast I wold need something that works almost instantly and doesn't last too long. No epidural!

So I guess my question is what types of meds are available out there that would help at least take the edge off ? I do have some time still cause I am only 16 weeks right now.

Hi!
Is this one a boy?  At our hospital we have a Fentanyl protocol, and this might work quite nicely for you.  Fentanyl has a rapid onset of action, and wears off quickly.  If you were my patient, and likely to deliver quickly again, I would strongly consider using this medication for you.  By the way, it is also safe -- safer than Demerol actually.
Good luck!

My first 2 were girls, and I'm thinking this one is a boy, haven't found out yet but hoping to in 2 weeks.
Do you know if Fentanyl is available in Canada?
