leg cramps

I am 23 weeks. Last night I had a leg cramp that made me cry and today it still hurts horribly. I can barely walk in that leg. What can I do to help prevent these from happening?
I know about bananas.  Any other suggestions? Thanks!!!!

I've been drinking a protein shake (Muscle Milk)before I lay down at night and that really seems to help prevent leg cramps.

Hi!
If you were my patient, I would advise you that we don't know for certain why leg cramps are increased in pregnancy.  There are lots of home remedies for them, although I am not sure any of them has been studied scientifically.  Calcium supplements are thought to be helpful, also CoQ.
You should probably do regular mild exercise and stretches. Not TOO MUCH or TOO little.
Good luck!

My doctor told me OTC  magnesium pills. O sweetie let me tell ya 97% improvement. I had them horrible in both legs all night every night. Now I will occasionally have the start of one but goes away quick with no pain. It took the pill over a week to work so start now. Life saver pill for sure!! Good luck momma
