low fetal heart rate

by Stephhfi, Apr 30, 2008 04:00PM
I am currently 7 weeks pregnant and my last vaginal ultrasound detected a fetal heart rate of 65.  The doctor asked if she the u/s tech had a hard time finding the fetus and she said "yes".  At that point she moved it around and got a better image.  I was wondering if when she did the first test if she was not close enough and that is why the heart rate was so low?!  I am on Progestrone twice daily and on bed rest.  Please let me know your thoughts on such a low heart rate.  Do you think the bed rest would slow the fetal heartrate down?

Thanks ,

Hello,

A slow fetal heart rate at 7wks gestation suggests an increased risk of miscarriage.  I'd recommend repeating the sono in one week.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing

Do you think the ultrasound could have been off?
