need help!

I have recently had one miscarriage at eight and a half weeks. I am pregnant again and seven weeks today. My doctor has put me on progesterone, a hormone medicine that is supposed to help keep the baby attached to my uterus. I had an ultrasound at six weeks and two days and the baby's heart beat had just started. Has anyone taken the medicine and was their pregnancy normal or what?

I'm currently on progesterone, since I'm eleven weeks pregnant, and I took it when I was expecting my now eighteen months son. I had previously had a couple miscarriages, andmy doctor tested and foundthat I had a low hcg level. progesterone has worked great for me. I haven't had any miscarriages or complications since being on it. congrats and good luck with your baby!

Hi!
If you were my patient, I would very likely have to taking the same medication.  Progesterone is a hormone that is produced in high amounts by the placenta.  In some cases, it is believed that miscarriage can be caused by low levels of this hormone, so we often recommend taking it if we have a concern.  If you don't like the medication, you could ask your doctor to check your progesterone level--if it is high enough, you might not need the medication.
Your doctor will likely recommend that you only take it for a few weeks anyway.
Progesterone is used all the time and there is no associated risk of birth defects that we are aware of.
Good luck!

I took this medication with my first pregnancy and everything turned out fine. With my next pregnancy I did not take the medication and the pregnancy ended in a miscarriage at about 7/8 weeks. I'm now 6 weeks pregnant, and I asked the Dr to put me on this medication and so far everything have been fine.
