Dear Doctor,
I had my second u/s today at 6 wks5days. They Dr. saw a yolk sac, fetal pole and a heartbeat, however he said the gestational sac was smaller than they like to see at 9mm. It was 6 mm, 6 days ago.
Is there a possibility for this resulting in a successful pregnancy?
thank you
Hello,
At an hCG level of ~1000-2000 an early pregnancy should be visible by a transvaginal ultrasound. However, this is equipment and sonographer dependent.
The earliest signs of an intrauterine pregnancy would be visualizing a gestational sac and yolk sac (~5wks) or between 5-6 wks, an early fetal pole +/- a fetal heart beat.
And yes, your hCG level seems appropriate, but there is a wide range of normal.
Good luck
Dr. Downing
