nothing shown in ultrasound

I need some help.
On friday night i had INTENSE pain in my abdomen and lower back. I thought I may be pregnant as my breasts were also tender and swollen. On saturday morning I did an at home preg test and it was posivite. YAY! i was excited. Then i went to the doctor that day cos i knew that pain wasnt a good sign. The doctor sent me to the emergency hospital room. There they took my blood test to test for hormone levels. I went back today Tuedsay and they did more hormone levels and it hadnt doubled. it had only gone up slightly. So they did a vaginal Ultrasound and they couldnt see anything at all. They keep saying it could be an Ectopic Pregnancy (howvever they saw nothing eighter) and this has been on my mind non stop. I am so worried. Has anyone ever had this happen and then carry on to be normal, or do you think that I am having a miscarriage or ectopic? They told me that i would be in pain if it was ectopic and i have no pain anymore. I am so confused. the doctor said that it is a mystery and i have to just wait and see. I am so emotionally drained and I just want to know if anyone has had anything similar and what was the outcome.

update:
I went in for a hcg checkup and the levels went up slightly. They did an internal ultrasound and saw nothing. Definitely suspected an ectopic. I went in for an emergency laparoscopy and they found it in my fallopian tube and took my whole tube out.
I hope that this decreases the risk again, as my other remaining tube is all good... Very upset, but these things happen and i had no control.
I just hope that one day my partner and I can have children of our own.

some woman have that happen an go on to have healthy babies.  I had that happen with both of my previous pregnancys.  I lost my twins an then I was pregnant in my tube an it had to be removed.  I know its stressful... try to stay calm.  Please let us know what happens.  Good luck , Anita

I have pregnancy symptoms yes. My breasts are swollen. I have cravings and im very tired. I only have had really light pinky brown stuff when i wipe in the toilet, but only occasionally and only a little. is that normal??? I really pray that this is all a big misunderstanding.

I didn't see my bean an the heart beat until I was 7 weeks.  Just 5 days before I have a vaginal ultrasound and there was only a black dot.  You could be to early.  The dr.'s always have to think the worse.  I have had 2 failed pregnancys.  The first one was with twins.  I was pregnant in my left tube with the 2nd one... an had surgery to have it removed.  Have you had any bleeding?  I didn't have any pregnancy symtoms when I was pregnant in my tube.  i did at first then they stopped.  I just woke up in horrible pain one night an had to be rushed to the ER.  I'm going to be praying for you.  Keep us posted.  Anita

When i got prego with this baby i had an u/s at 5 wks 2 days and barly seen the sack cuz it was to early to really see anything. Before my doc even did it she said that you make not see anything cuz it was so early. So i would be patient and wait to get another u./s at 6 wks. Good luck and hope everything goes well.

THANKS so much for your reply. You have given my that little bit of hope. I almost gave up. I really really hope that things will be ok. The doctor kept saying that things didnt look good. I am holding on.

i think there to early to see the sac and the doctors should have said it may be to early when i was pregnant with my son i got a viginal scan at 4 weeks pregnant and saw nothing and when they took blood of me my hcg levels were only 1000 odd dont no exact number but wasnt high i dont think you should worry so much i know its scary but they might not see it yet since your only about 3 weeks and i would just keep an eye out for bleeding or major cramps but if you said you have nothing i would try and relax until friday good luck and keep use posted xx

im actually really confused. If im too early to tell, then why didnt the doctor tell me that...
At very early stages, do you still se a sac or something?? And are your hormone levels meant to double exactly throughout the whole pregnancy? I have no idea if it is ectopic, a miscarriage or just too early. I cant wait til friday this is racking my brain...
I have no pain and no bleeding..... ???

Many people do not see anything on an ultrasound until the 6th week or later. Was there a sac or anything or just no heartbeat?

Hi leighanne143, my levels were only 1700 on one day and then 3 days later were 2400... Im not sure what is going on, but i wonder why the doctor didnt just say to me that it could just be too early, cos he didnt tell me how far along i am. i could only be about 3 weeks. When you are that early, dont you see anything on ultrasounds?

i have heard that with eptopics, the pain happens more around the 8th week.

do you know what your exact levels were each test?  did they only go up a few numbers or just not completely double?  also early ultrasounds can be scary because nothing can be seen on them for a while.  i did not see my little bean with a heratbeat flicker until 6 weeks, which i heard is very common for pregnancy.
