Hi!
I'm sorry to say that the hcg levels can continue to rise even when there is a blighted ovum. A blighted ovum is an empty sac in which no fetus forms. They never continue on to be a healthy pregnancy, and always end in miscarriage or sometimes patients need a D&C. We don't know what causes them, but they are extremely common.
The good news is that they are not likely to happen to the same person twice.
Usually if the sac is low, the miscarriage starts fairly soon--usually with some spotting.
If you want to get it over with sooner than Mother Nature--your doctor can give you a medication called Cytotec that will make your uterus expel the sac.
Good luck!

thanku for answering me. i dont think that there is a baby there. each time i went and saw an empty sac i assumed that they would offer me the d&c but they keep making me wait which is giving me hope. the sac has been low since the first scan 2 weeks ago. do you think the easiest thimg to do is to ask them to get rid of it?
