post pregnancy bleeding

I had an emergency c-section at the end of October, 2007.  I have not stopped bleeding since, with the exception of a couple days, and it is 3 months later.  I had continued spotting with coffee ground consistency up until 1 1/2 months ago.  At that point the bleeding became so heavy I was changing my pad every hour.  I was also passing clots up to the size of an egg.  At that point I did not have any cramping.  I went to the emergency room per the advice of my OBGYN where they performed an ultrasound.  They said the endometrial wall was measured at 16mm thick.  They released me and told me to follow up with my doctor which I did a week later.  My doctor put me on a birth control pill.  I doubled up the first week which did stop the bleeding but I also began cramping at that point.  After the first week I was to take the pill as normal for 3 weeks and then stop to try and have a normal period.  Since I have been at 1 pill a day the bleeding has returned.  It has gone from spotting to very heavy with clots again.  The cramping has become very severe, also.  I have been taking ibruprofen as needed to try to slow the bleeding but it is having little affect with slowing the flow or the cramps.  Please advise me on what my next step shuold be.  I am 29 years old and would like to have another child this year.  I have had problems in the past with cysts but never severe periods and bleeding.

i went back to the doctor again.  my problem has gotten worse and they want to try a different route.  they now are telling me it is my hormones so they put me on provera for 10 days.  they are telling me that after the 10 days i'm going to have "miscarriage" like pains while my body sheds everything.  they don't want to do a d & c because of the risk of going through the uterine wall, which is weakened from the c-section.  i'm only 4 days into the provera pill so the worse is yet to come.  if it works, i'll reply back again.  maybe then your sis-in-law can ask her dr about trying it.

Hello,

You should go back to see your ob/gyn to help sort out why you are having such irregular bleeding.

Best regards,
