I've had to get stitches with all three of mine. they were only slight tears, and were really no big deal to have a few stitches. you may our may not tear some, but honestly I wouldn't worry too much about it.

If you were my patient, I would advise you that usually the more children that you have, the fewer stitches you need since the tissues have been stretched. It is sometimes impossible to prevent tearing however, unfortunately, so yes, you might need stitches.

Theres always a chance that you will tear, but if you deliver in a hospital you can ask them about an episiotomy (I might have spelled that wrong) where they cut you instead of waiting for you to tear. I know that sounds bad, but its a 'controlled' cut, meaning it will be straight and not just in any direction.
