two missed periods but negative hpt result!!

i am 17 years old, coming up to 18 years.
im sexually active with my partner of 6 months and have been on birth control pills for about 18 months
#i have never missed a period, which is why im now concerned as i havent had a period since the first week of february and its now almost april!
ive taken two hpt tests, both came back as negative.
although i havent done a first thing one in the morning but surely a positive should be coming up by now
also i have been feeling most of the pregnancy related symptoms i.e. sore breasts, tingling in the lower tummy, nausea, increased tiredness, etc.
i have been to see my doctor who did blood tests to tst for anemia and other blood related problems, but they came back normal
he has advised me to come off my pill until my period comes, or i get a positive hpt result.
should i ask for an ultrasound scan if i havent had a period by 3 months since my last one?

be grateful if anyone else has been or is going through this atm and could give advice!

I agree with LosingMyMindInGA, it's highly unlikely that you are pregnant if your hpts are coming up as BFN. This has happend to me this month, i missed 2 periods and did about 7 hpts all were BFN untill me period showed up last Friday. I will say that there is a very littel chance that your pg, but still do get your blood test so that your not stressed about this that.

Good luck

hi there!
yeah ive read alot on the internet forums lately about women who do not get a positive hpt for anywhere between 4-10 weeks of conception!
the doctor said my hcg levels may just be low, as that isnt uncommon in women apparently!
thank you!
at least i know other people have experienced the same thing!

I had 4 negative HPTs with my first and only (so far) pregnancy. I found out I was pregnant when I was almost through my 1st trimester. Try getting your doc to order the beta blood test which will tell you for sure if the hormone for pregnancy is present. Good luck!

hi there,

thanks for the advice!
me & my partner are using alternative means of contraception until the doctors find out what exactly is going on in there!
i think the reason i have been getting so worried about missing these two periods and having all the "typical pregnancy symptoms" is because although my hpt is coming back negative, ive read on other forums of women who have had cases of pregnancy where for one reason or another the hpt is coming back negative, but they discovered they were anywhere between 2-5 months pregnant when they eventually had a trans-vaginal ultrasound!

I don't think it's wise to come off the birth control pills if you are sexually active unless you plan to use another method of birth control.  It's not uncommon for a woman to miss a period due to stress or anovulation.  If the pregnancy tests are coming out negative then there is really very little chance that you are in fact pregnant.  If you do come off of your birth controls it might be wise to start tracking your BBT (basal body temperature) it's the most accurate way to tell if your body is ovulating.  You can google "how to chart bbt" and find tons of websites explaining it to you.  It's really very simple and can tell you for a fact if you have ovulated or not.  If you are not ovulating that explains your lack of menstrual bleeding.  Even at 32 yo after 7 pregnancies I went 64 days without a period for no apparent reason.  Sometimes stress or other facts like possibly an illness can cause you to miss a period or two.  The symptoms you are describing, while they are related to pregnancy, can be attributed to other things as well.  Once you go off the pills and you chart your bbt and determine whether or not you are ovulating you should follow up with your doctor.  If no ovulation is occuring your doctor should be doing more tests to determine why.
I would advise that at this point it would be important to use another type of birth control.  IF, and that's a BIG IF, there is somethign else going on with your reproductive system you don't want to become pregnant becuase there are certain things that can affect a pregnancy and should be dealt with prior to conceiving.
