My husband and I have been trying to conceive for 2 years now.  We've been working on it really hard, but in a relaxed sort of way for the last 2 months and hoping this month we get a positive on the hpt.  Anyway, I read Making Babies: A Proven 3-Month Program for Maximum Fertility by Sami David and Jill Blakeway and it has really helped me put everything into better perspective since I worry so much about infertility (even though we are both healthy).  In the book the authors help you discover your fertility type and how you can optimize your chances of getting pregnant.  They also cover PCOS and recommend that if you have/had PCOS you may need to cut back on carbs, choose your carbs wisely and focus on complex carbs.  It's also mentioned that "Women with PCOS who use fertility drugs also have to contend with a higher risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome" (Making Babies).  I think the authors did a wonderful job covering major concerns/topics about infertility and I also enjoyed reading the real-life examples that they included about their own patients and the results.  I recommend you read this book so that you become better informed about your choices in regards to infertility and trying to conceive.  Hope it helps :)

Hi!
I'm sorry for the delay in response--was very ill for awhile
Often women with PCOS can benefit from some medications to help them conceive.
Metformin in combination with Clomid or Femara has worked well for my patients in the past.  If you are a little overweight, losing 10-20 lbs can do wonders too.

It is possible to conceive without medications, but often takes quite awhile.

Good luck!

Also to add to what i just wrote, last month i was using the first response ovulation test and every test was the same. once the test showed up positive i was supposed to have 24-36 hours to try and hope for the best but it never came postive so i never had an LH surge. We do not know what to do at all. My husband says that when insurance kicks in through his work then i am getting to the doctor and getting all around checked but before then is there anything we can try?

Hey, I have been with my husband a year and a half and we are trying to get pregnant and having no luck. April 2009 I was no longer getting depo shots, doctors said about a year later you should be back to normal. a year goes by and still no luck. this past april it had been a year and the week april 26 2010 i had a normal period again so i thought yay! april 26 is my bday and even though i was bleeding we still had sex...my flow has never been bad to begin with but its the end of august now and not had a period since. my breasts are tender and quite a bit bigger, my husband is gone 28 days a month and home 14 and he KNOWS they are alot bigger. actaully over a cup bigger just within the last few months and my stomach is becoming bigger and tighter each day. morning sickness 99% of my days and throwing up has happened a few times here and there. i thought at first that maybe this is all in my head so i took a pregnancy test and was negative. my husband said when he gets off the boat we will take another test and if im not pregnant we are going to try again but still no luck. i have taken at least 7 or 8 tests throughout the last 4-5 months and every one negative. besides going to a doctor, is there something we can do? we both want a baby and have actually been trying since i got off the shot last april so its almost been a year and a half trying. what can we do? please help
