Gleason score of 9 PSA 30

My brother is 48 years old who was just diagnosed with prostate CA. His father passed away from prostate CA. His scores are as follows: PSA 30 Gleason 9. All research indicates the prognosis is not good. He will be having a radical prostatectomy with lymphnode disection followed by radiation and harmone therapy. I was told the likelyhood he will servive this is slim. Any other treatment suggession?

I hope a real doc comments on Ratta68's post. Although a gleason score of 9 is high, it is by no means not treatable....Believe it or not there are many cancer patients that wish they had what ratta's bro has. We wish him well!

Thank you for your question. Use of PSA and Gleason score alone are a bit dubious for long term prognosis. Biopsy information would be helpful.

A gleason score that high is not good news.

Good luck to your brother and your family.
