PSA level 1078 at 51 years old, after first 4 months dropped to 16.2 slowing down but stopping?

by 2horses, May 29, 2007 12:00AM
My husband is 51 and he was diagnosed in January with a PSA level of 1078 after the first hormone therapy it dropped to 16.2.  We know it is in his bones and lymphnodes he has not told me where else they may have found it (doesn't want to worry me).

My question is if the cancer is this advanced is hormone therapy the only treatment for him?  The doctors ask us if we understand what they are telling us and he says yes.  I feel they are telling us he doesn't  have long and he is not going to let this slow him down.  What can I expect?  Will he suddenly go down?  Will he eventually lose his strength?  What will happen?

Check out the "yana" website as well as the website for "healing well."  There are others with high PSA and information as to treatment, etc.

Also check out the website for major hospitals that have been recognized for cancer treatments (Johns Hopkins, Cleveland Clinic, Mayo, Sloan-Kettering, UCLA, University of San Francisco, etc).

You can also google prostate cancer for more information.

Good luck!  Take it one day at a time and learn as much as you can.

Oh, "healthboards" is also a good site.

I m sorry to know about your husband. But in advance case of prostate cancer only hormone therapy is there which decrease the level of abnormal male hormone. If it would not have been disseminated then surgery is another option as far as i know. The prognosis is largely depend upon the stage of the cancer. There are 4 stage of prostate cancer. Stage 1 has the best prognosis and stage 4 has worse. Also prognosis depends upon PSA velocity, Gleason score, age and general health of the patient.

Symptoms is very hard to determine. They are largely depend upon the actual site of destruction by the desseminated (spearding) cancer cell like problem with bone, kidney, bowel, brain, liver, lungs and so on.

Wish you a good health for your husband.
