Prostate Biopsy and sperm

HI,

My boyfriend just had a prostate biopsy Friday.  They got 17 samples.  We had sex on Saturday and Sunday.  He has had alot the bleeding in his ejaculate and what was told to us can happen.  My question is, can sperm still live in the bloody ejaculate?  I'm asking because I just started taking Birth Control pills and we did not use any protection....

Thank you for your question. The prostate is where approximately 1/3 of the fluid found in semen is created. This fluid helps in the motility of the sperm. Addressing your question, one would not expect the presence of blood after biopsy to make any discernible difference in the survival of the sperm (although there may be some differences in the pH levels).

Thank you for your question and good luck.

Sincerely,
