This patient support community is for discussions relating to advanced or metastatic
prostate cancer, biopsy, bone scan, blood in urine or semen, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), CT scan, cystoscopy, erectile dysfunction (ED), hormone therapy, incontinence, pain (abdomen, lower back or hip), PSA test, prostatitis, radiation therapy, rectal exam, recurrent cancer, screening, staging (tumor size, metastasis), transrectal ultrasound, and urinary difficulty, burning, or urgency (leaking).
The number of samples generally allow for more accurate estimation of disease. Bear in mind that the biopsy will only be meaningful if it is able to get a sample of the cancer. Chances are some of the samples would only contain normal tissue.
I understand you are concerned with the risk of seeding through the needle, but you may think of it this way. It is standard to get multiple samples, and yet, it does not seem to increase the incidence of disease dissemination attributed to seeding. Hence, you'd probably be short-changed if you purposely required a reduction in the numbers.
