Why a rise in PSA

am 53 years old and after having a blood work done I found out my psa was 5.1. had ultra sound done and found my prostate was 88 grams. Dr did a prolieve microwave therapy to reduce the size and help with the common enlarged prostate issues. Now went for a 6 month check-up and found my psa is now 7.2. Dr now wants another psa test done to see why it is rising. Had a biopsy done 8 months ago and was normal. He said I will probably need a more intense biopsy done( 36 samples). I am kinda concerned about the whole ordeal. I am going to get blood work done in 2 weeks. What do you think is going on?

Thank you for your question. A recent study published in Urology suggests that PSA and PSA velocity are important predictors in distinguishing prostate cancer and bph after bph treatment. Followup PSA is essential and a saturation biopsy may be warranted.

How many cores were taken during your previous biopsy?

Sincerely,

AKT
