Hi,

The main advantage of the robotic assisted/ laparoscopic procedures is that there is less recovery time needed, and it is less bloody. It is unclear whether there is an improvement in terms of incontinence and erectile dysfunction with the standard open surgeries.

For the open prostatectomy, the rates of incontinence would be about 35% and erectile dysfunction 58%. These figures are taken from: Ann Intern Med. 2008 Mar 18;148(6):435-48. Epub 2008 Feb 4
