Use it or lose it

I am a 58 y/o with a healthy sex drive.  Things operate best when I have at least one orgasm every 24-48 hours.  If I go more than 72 hours without ejaculation, I have numbness and difficulty having an orgasm with the result of a thicker consistancy of ejaculate.  Does increased sexual activity improve prostate function?  Does decreased sexual activity increase the risk of prostate problems?

Good question. First we have to define "prostate function." The simple fact is that we do not really understand why we have a prostate. There are reasonable assumptions that it has to do with fertility. I say assumptions because such assumptions cannot be tested (we cannot remove prostates and check fertility because to remove prostates is to do a de facto vasectomy; plus men kinda object to having their prostates removed).  As a practical matter, assuming this is correct, is it an issue? Are you trying to preserve your fertility???

Let us define "prostate problems" as benign enlargement (BPH), prostatitis, and cancer. There is not a good body of literature to support that sex prevents such problems.

I am not trying to preserve fertility, I had a vasectomy in my 30's.  My only concern is that when I refrain from sexual activity for too long, I have difficulty getting full erections and have a loss of nerve sensitivity for a day or two.  Just don't want to take too long of a break from sex to the point of some type of permenant loss of function.
