Why wouldn't my doctor tell me the extent of a bone break?

Earlier this week, i went to a metal concert and participated in the mosh pit. As i was leaving the pit, i got rammed from the left side and landed hard on my elbow. The next day, i went to the ER. The radiologists spent a while discussing something on one of my images, so i knew it was broken. However, they didn't tell me the extent of the damage, they just put it in a splint and told me to follow up with an orthopedic surgeon. Could it be that they need a second opinion? It's kind of weird to me, that's all, that they wouldn't tell me the extent of the damage.

That sounds a bit odd to me too. If they told you to contact a surgeon, surely they handed you over a report with their findings for the surgeon?

no, they didn't give me anything that first visit. I had to go back and have the splint redone. It was on the second visit that they gave me a copy of my x-rays.

So I'm not the only one who sees this as odd.
