I was diagnosed with mycrocytic hypchromatic anemia 6 months ago. My pcp was started treating me with a high dose vitamin d and c, and a slow fe iron. test came back that it was not caused by iron deficiency. They took me off the iron and I continued to take the d and c. I then developed kidney stones. The stones were so large the had to be surgicaly removed. My urologist took me off the vitamins. In the past few I have become very fatigued and having bad headaches. Also I am having sharp pains in my muscles and joints along with cramping of the muscles in my legs and feet. Could this be from the anemia or could it be something more? thank you
Welcome to the forum!
Well, generally microcytic hypochromic anemia is due to iron deficiency. Vit D supplementation should not be done without Vit D deficiency. This could be the cause of your aches and pains and cramping—excess Vit D or maybe a calcium or magnesium level disorder. Please get the blood levels of electrolytes and Vit D checked.
The cause of anemia has to be found. It can also be due to thalassemia trait. Hence an electrophoresis of hemoglobin should be done.
I would strongly recommend you to consult a hematologist. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
