Apituirairsm syndrome ? Is there such a medical entity?

by MarieCurie, Jan 30, 2009 05:13PM
I have a patient who claims that he was born without a pituitary gland., he was given Growth Hormone until 18 year-old. Since 18 he has had no health insurance so he has had no medical care. Basically he does not have much complaints except that he gets heavier and heavier over the past 2 years under my care (he has a mental disorder). He is now over 400 lbs.

I have a hard time believing that he has no pituitary gland!  The pituitary controls all of the other endocrine glands-thyroid, adrenals, and I believe, the pancreas.  To me, you'd see so many other health problems if this were truly the case.  I am just not buying it!
