Hypothyroidism could explain the possible low vitamin D 25 levels(I know they haven't come back yet, but I am assuming they will be low since you have Hashimotos) and higher Vitamin D 1,25 levels. Also could explain the high Parathyroid level.
You do need to see an endocrinologist to get an ultra sound on your thyroid to make sure everything is okay. I'm not saying it's parathyroid tumors, but it's better to be safe then sorry.
Also if your calcium levels come back high you need to be checking your kidneys as well, but overall you should take this one level at a time.
Well, the doctor had made a mistake and ordered the wrong vitamin D test. There is the Vitamin D 1,25 and Vitamin D 25. The vitamin D 1,25 was the one that came back high. This most likely means that my vitamin D 25 is low. We are still waiting for those results. My calcium and phosphorus came back normal, but my Parathyroid was high at 90. My doctor was going to put in a referral to an endo., but the endo told her it wasnt necessary because the labs show I have a vitamin D deficiency (although my actual vitamin D levels have not come back yet). I am wondering if I should push to see the endo, or just accept the diagnosis, take extra vitamin D and revisit my labs in a few months. This still doesnt explain why I feel like I have a lump in my neck every time I swallow (right where my thyroid is located).
Okay well let's not get carried away! Take it one at a time, first you probably should get a Calcium level to gauge if there is a problem such as sarcoidosis, Lymphoma, or renal disease.
Considering your Hashimoto's is very interesting, almost fascinating....I have heard of many Hashimoto's patients dealing with LOW vitamin D levels, none high. I am wondering(moreover just taking a stab in the dark) do your Hashimoto's meds happen to increase your Vitamin D levels? You know since most patients almost have to take Vitamin D pills on top of the Hashimoto's meds, but in your case you have an excess. Maybe you could switch meds, I am not sure though considering I have no idea what you are prescribed.
I don't drink any orange juice. I am not out in the sun more than a few hours on the weekends. After I posted my question, I did some research and realized that the Dr. tested my vitamin D 1,25. I don't think she tested my calcium or other D level. The only reference to high D 1,25 was this :
Unregulated production of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (i.e., sarcoidosis, granulomatous diseases) is an uncommon cause of hypercalcemia; this should be suspected if blood calcium levels are high and parathyroid hormone levels are low and confirmed by measurement of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.
I don't know why my Dr. ordered this test, and I think I am going to insist on further tests. Now I wonder if I have some type of granulomatous disease!
How long do you stay in the sun?
How much Orange Juice(if any) do you drink?
