Cough

I have been coughing almost non-stop for well over a month.  It gets so bad I end up vomiting sometimes. I get no sleep and can't even have simple conversations that are uninteruppted.  I've been to a doctor and he has given me Protonix, it's been three weeks and still no resolve.  My physician says I have no allergies or irratation in my throat and he feels it is GERD due to an increase in weight over a short period of time.  I had the Mirena (IUC) inserted about a year ago and had it removed due to intense weight gain with no cause. It's been about a month that it has been removed.  There is never any mucus just heavy, clear saliva.  I'm wondering if this may be a hormonal problem from the Mirena or if this is GERD why is the medicine not hepling.  I do not have the feeling of acid in my throat ever but when I go to bed, it's worse.  I am practically in an up right seating position just so I can sleep for an hour or two before I start coughing again.  Need help diagnosising.
Very exhausted

Found out what was causing my cough, mold.  I had bought a rug and needed someone to help me cut it to fit so I had it rolled up in my living room for three months.  Finally when someone came over to help, they noticed it was covered in mold.  We threw it out and by the next day I wasn't coughing all the time.  A whole week later and I never cough any more.  My advice is, if the cough is a quick onset and there is no reason for it, check your home first for anything that could cause an allergy.

Hi
Welcome to the forum!
If the cough worsens on lying down, it can either be due to GERD or due to asthma like condition. Treatment of GERD is a combination of drugs to reduce the acid and lifestyle changes. Omeprazole is a good drug to combat this. Along with it you can try over the counter antacids as at times omeprazole alone is not sufficient. However I would recommend you see a doctor and take medication under a doctor’s supervision. Avoid heavy meals. Avoid too much of caffeine, tea, fried and spicy food and drinks both alcoholic and non alcoholic fuzzy ones. Avoid heavy exercises within 4 hours of a heavy meal. Raise the head end of the bed by pillows to 30 degrees. Go to bed at least 2 hours after food.
For asthma like condition you would need to take inhalers and bronchodilators.
It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please discuss this with your doctor.  Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
